The GOP war on voting The GOP war on voting

More "real americans" certainly.

Silent majority.

GOP should just troll everyone and start calling them the Invisible Majority.

Does anyone follow @mikefarb1 and his unhack the vote stuff? I'm wondering if he's legit. He gets a ton of likes and mentions but I've not seen one mainstream news outlet cover what he's doing.

When James Carville said Pennsylvania was, "Picksburgh and Philadelphia with Alabama in between" he wasn't joking. I walk past houses which are sporting Trump signs and Confederate flags on a daily basis

Trump managed to win a handful of rural counties by larger margins than Romney, and Hilldawg got fewer votes than Obama. Organized labor used to be big here so I imagine there's quite a few olds who are registered Ds but vote straight R tickets now (to address the points raised in that twitter thread).

The Dems turning their backs on labor as a constituency is one of the "hidden" reasons Hillary lost PA, imo. It's also one of the reasons they are now in big trouble in some former midwest strongholds like Michigan, Wisconsin, and maybe Minnesota.

PA is a hole, even by Ohio standards. It's like the south but with none of the charm. I don't see the Dems ever winning it back without the union vote.

Lawsuit against the "voter fraud" commissions attempt to get voter info rejected by judge due to lack of standing. I thought companies were people?!

“Lack of standing” and “companies are people” (which isn’t even the correct phrase, but whatever) don’t have anything to do with each other

BOOM

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...redistricting/

GOP gerrymandering ruled illegal in PA Supreme Court.

Wasn’t PA the worst offender? Like Dems had to get 55% of the vote to get 50% of the seats or something? This could be huge for 2018.

pretty sure NC was worse than PA, but i dont say that with complete certainty

In PA, the Republicans have 13/18 US House seats. Barack Obama won PA in 2008 and 2012. Hillary Clinton lost by less than a point. Think about that. Republicans have about 45-50% of the vote in PA, yet hold almost 75% of the US House seats. They also dominate the state legislature with 60% of the seats in both chambers.

Tea party slappies took over here during the 2006 mid term and they were still in power in 2010 when redistricting happened. Our state government has been completely dysfunctional ever since. Most years the state budget is late or doesn't get passed at all. When I still worked for the Commonwealth I once went two months without getting paid over a budget dispute.

Republicans have no more than 50% of the vote in NC either, trump carried the state with less than 50% and they have both senate seats and 10/13 house seats

Also, dat map

Free and easy, boys.
02-06-2018 , 12:15 PM
It's only free and easy because the Walker administration was taken to court over that issue.
02-06-2018 , 12:57 PM
It should always be free and even easier. Automatic voter registration would be the best. I'm sure Inso supports that as well.

Yeah wow curious that they didn't tweet "it's hard and a pain and I guess none of you should bother doing it", I'm really shocked

Sure. No reason not to make use of the existing DMV database. Just show up with an ID that matches the book and you're all set.

Still thinking too small.
02-06-2018 , 01:52 PM
zero reason anybody should need ID in order to vote
02-06-2018 , 02:08 PM
Oh there are reasons, they're just despicable.
02-06-2018 , 02:41 PM
i mean as a matter of necessity or security, but yeah, fair enough

Pretty sure USA#1 has some of the most lax voting procedures already. All of these socialist utopias you guys like to cite as examples of what we should be striving for are quite strict about voters providing proof of their identity when they show up to cast a ballot. I believe in Sweden you have to provide both an ID as well as your voter card, which has no other purpose in life. That's TWO required documents to provide! THE HORROR!

Saying things like "zero reason anybody should need ID in order to vote" when you live in a country where something like 8% of the adult population is ineligible to vote just makes you look ridiculous. Why even have rules if you're going to make no attempt to enforce them?
02-06-2018 , 09:41 PM
Do you think there are material and historical differences between Sweden and the US such that using a voting card in Sweden might not be problematic (to be clear it still could be, I don't know but more importantly I know that you don't know) but the various ID requirements in the US are?

Most racist post of all time. Congratulations.
