This is more a note to self but this is an essay by Block, mainly about working for the state, esp. universities and a similar one by Rothbard

LOL Pentagon buttboy is on Fox Business telling Cavuto that it we cut the budget on war and empire we'll be over run with mooslims. He says we desperately need to spend an ADDITIONAL $1.5T on "defense" or else we'll all be wearing burkhas I guess.

And he's saying we definitely CANNOT cut spending for incredibly expensive, technologically advanced, fragile, ineffective boondoggles like the F22 and F35 that were designed to fight an enemy that ceased to exist almost two decades ago.

If you're curious why this came up:

http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/41...ml#post8963248

Also, IIRC, it was only 6 months ago when discussion of the government spending "trillions" of dollars only came up on the internet and wasn't mentioned in the MSM.

In a related story to the NY Post dead monkey cartoon that resulted in so much controversy, the Washington Post went off the PC deep end. The Post ran a column talking about a New York Times story relating to how men and women reacted sexually to various images.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...021600936.html

In a surprise, women became aroused at the site of monkeys mating. The Wash. Post printed a small cartoon depicting a man, woman, and an ape. After all, that's what this column was about. However, since an ape was depicted, the Post ran an apology for this blatant racial insensitivity:

"The headline, illustration and text of 'Below the Beltway,' a column in The Washington Post Magazine today, may cause offense to readers. The magazine was printed before a widely publicized incident last week in which a chimpanzee attacked and badly mauled a woman in Stamford, Conn. In addition, the image and text inadvertently may conjure racial stereotypes that The Post does not countenance. We regret the lapse"

I guess we have reached the point where a cartoon of an ape connected to a story relating to apes is no longer acceptable. I guess any image of an ape is a racial slur.

So he wants the government to expropriate money and spend it in his department? And it's all really in the interest of every body else? Hmmm, that does sound appealing and not enraging in any way whatsoever.

Maybe too much content for the LC thread but why exactly do you think the F22 and F35 are fragile and ineffective and have no relevance to any of today's threat? Im not even the biggest fan of either program but you are pretty much wrong on every count.

No, I'm not. I'll post some info tomorrow.

How do you use an F35 to combat a kid hiding in a city with an RPG or IED?

How cost-effective do you think that is?
02-23-2009 , 11:57 PM
Cost effective schmost effective. It's OPM; the less cost effective, the better.

OK hypothetical question here:

Lets say the brown stuff hits the fan and all hell breaks loose in America. Violent gangs take over all the major cities. Killing eveybody in they can. Mexican drug cartels move over the boarder and start flexing their muscle in the southern part of the country. Everybody stops paying taxes. Bomb goes off inside the pentagon. Nobody is listening to the cops. The military is being deployed every where. Power gets cut off at your house for some reason. Phones don't work. You can't go to work. You are out of gas. Gas station doesn't have anymore gas ect ect.....

What do you do in 75 words or less?

GO

First, move to my grandparent's farm. Obv. I'd want to make sure to do that before running out of gas though.

I don't know why, but this post reminded me of this article:

http://www.iht.com/articles/2009/02/...a/23terror.php

Quote:
More than 70 United States military advisers and technical specialists are secretly working in Pakistan to help its armed forces battle Al Qaeda and the Taliban in the country's lawless tribal areas, American military officials said.

The Americans are mostly Army Special Forces soldiers who are training Pakistani Army and paramilitary troops, providing them with intelligence and advising on combat tactics, the officials said. They do not conduct combat operations, the officials added.

They make up a secret task force, overseen by the United States Central Command and Special Operations Command. It started last summer, with the support of Pakistan's government and military, in an effort to root out Qaeda and Taliban operations that threaten American troops in Afghanistan and are increasingly destabilizing Pakistan. It is a much larger and more ambitious effort than either country has acknowledged.

We jump from one country to another, training this one, fighting that one, sanctioning this one, subsidizing that one.

How many times have we trained a country's military, given them guns, and wound up fighting them 5 to 10 years later?

Jesus Christ on a pogo stick.

I've seen the word 'pragmatic' tossed around more than ever since Obama became POTUS...I've looked it up a few times, wiki'd it, etc and still don't have a good understanding of the term. I know a lot of you are very smart. Can someone give me a dumbed down definition please?
