Since he's a ratings magnet, I'm pretty sure it isn't.

Interestingly, he's on Fox News right this second, doing a remote at the Capitol Rotunda. My wife is just out of frame to the right.

They have a remote crew out for the hearings, of course.

From my international politics class 20 seconds ago

"Universal health care, free universities will never happen in America, we favor the free market too much to allow it" - 3 students agreed with this.

Totally unrelated to anything, today's stupid headline seen on the Yahoo main page:

Powerful earthquake hits eastern coast of Indonesia

Duh, Indonesia doesn't have an eastern coast. It's an archipelago and its most eastern part ends at a 400-mile-long land boundary with Papua New Guinea.

Yes, I am a geography nerd.

You read to much into it IMO. I simply meant the new Libertarian Club. As in there isn't one right now and the first meeting is on the 19th.

I went to high school about 45 min from Austin, so we did alot of weekend trips. There are nice hotels downtown, I'm guessing like 150 a night? They have the advantage of being right on 6th street where I assume you will be doing your drinking. I know there are less nice motels that are cheaper and a few blocks away, something like a Days Inn, I'll see if I can find it online. Will you have a car? If you do then being near downtown is not as crucial, though you have to factor in cab rides if you all want to drink. I will leave restaurants and bars to somebody else since I am a vegetarian and haven't spent a significant amount of time there since I turned 21. They ID like crazy, as you would expect, if anybody is under 21.

Max,

Thanks, we have a hotel room. Its a Marriott on 6th street. We do have a car but we plan on staying pedestrian as much as possible.

Barney Frank called himself an "efficiency consultant" during the banking hearings today.

Cool, I think this one is right on the freeway right near the bars on 6th. If it is you should have no problem walking to and stumbling back from the bars. If not it will probably be like a 10 dollar cab ride. The worst part about talking a cab on the way back is that it often takes an hour if you are just a bunch of guys with no (hot) chicks.

I thought the same thing. I would have guessed it was Archie Manning if I didn't assume it was a politician.

Not sure if its too late, I'm just outside of Austin

Don't stay in the I-35 and Rundberg area. Probably best for you to just head downtown, pretty much whatever you want to find down there. If you have any specific requests for anything, I can help out. If you want some good BBQ, stop at Salt Lick on the way back up, they just opened one in Round Rock near the baseball stadium, for the way back. It's family style so you can eat a ton, and its pretty reasonably priced.

Marriott is close enough to anything you need. A few places I enjoyed were Buffalo Billiards and Maggie Maes. There is a decent wing place across the street too. You are definitely within stumbling distance of dozens of places, so just wander around and I'm sure you'll have fun.

TC,

Thanks for the info. I will keep your suggestions in mind, at least as long as I have a mind left. I havent had a beer in a month and I wont have another one for close to 11 months, so there is definitely some hard drinking in my immediate future.
02-12-2009 , 12:19 AM
I vaguely remember Maggie Maes from the few trips I've had when I was over 21. From what I remember, if you are looking for the typical undergrad type atmosphere, drunk chicks dancing, wasted frat boy types you can pretty much walk in anywhere. If you are looking for other types of places, you can find them but it would require some research.

You know, I just can't get over the fact that the official Whitehouse website has a BLOG.

I know that blogs have come a long way since the days of talking about how crappily the barber cut your hair, but it still seems strange to me.
02-12-2009 , 10:59 AM
Oh, and why can't I leave comments on these blog entries. I need to be heard, man.

They also need a forum, with a Misc. section. I always wanted to talk about Dexter season 3 on Whitehouse.gov.
