If any of you find yourselves exceptionally bored or think you're feeling a bit too good about Congress, read the text of the stimulus:

http://appropriations.house.gov/pdf/...Bill_Div_A.pdf

About 1/3 of the pages have handwritten additions.

Snipped officially bill title: "...., and for other purposes."

I love when those four words are affixed to a bill title.

I like the parts with random strike through marks written by hand. Seriously wtf is this? Is it too hard to ask for a final draft?

So I'm browsing Michael Jacksons auction catalog
Found this gem, pretty funny imo!

I find it really weird that kids that age care about money. I thought all kids that age would practically be socialists, but maybe my parents were too gung ho on the whole sharing thing

Any 2 year old understands "mine", as does my dog. This is why I can't take too seriously the people who don't believe the concept of property is innate.

just received this from a friend; posting it here because the "predictions" thread seems to have died.

Several countries, Germany, Russia, China, and the oil states, are about to announce a new global reserve currency based on a basket of their currencies. The US will be left-out in a 3rd world status......Last nights speech by Obama was a dog and pony show. He should have been telling us to get ready to live locally and put stimulus money into gardening tools. The next two months should reveal the new currency. I'm looking at March 19 as a possible date. Follow Jim Rodgers of The Hat Trick letter to stay up-to-date. His essays are sometimes found at The Golden Jackass......The US will try to keep its currency above .52 on the dollar index (curently at about 85), probably by promising not to inflate any more and pegging the dollar to a percentage of gold, like the Euro. Watch for news of something called the new Gold Certificate ratio. To stay up-to-date on that, follow Jim Sinclair.

I'm gonna look up Jim Rodgers and Jim Sinclair.

I don't think the concept of "private" property is innate though. My 2 year old thinks EVERYBODY'S **** is his.

I'm pretty sure running around like savages and killing/raping each other is also "innate" if we aren't socialized from a young age. I guess you can't take too seriously people who believe the concept of peaceful coexistence?

nope... running around like savages and killing/raping are not innate universally

within groups, cooperation is innate
dealing with outside groups, killing/raping is innate

Without getting nitty on this particular issue though, my point was simply that "Because 2 year olds understand _____, it must be an innate right" is pretty terrible logic fail.

Feral children. There is no evidence that a propensity to rape and murder is associated with a lack of socialization from a young age.

Peaceful coexistence is in tune with human nature. The absence of property is not.
02-27-2009 , 12:13 PM
Goofy,

If cooperation only exists because of socialization, how did people ever become socialized in the first place? You've got a real chicken-and-egg problem here unless you're going to say Visitors came from outer space and founded the first human society by socializing a group of wild, raping, murdering, lord-of-the-flies kids.
