What do you do in 75 words or less?

GO

Hook up with my father (retired green beret) at one of two weapons caches. And formulate a plan on where best to hold up.

edit: I have a little bit of gas I would steal the rest.

In order for me to care about the potential news that Russia is developing planes that threaten us I'd have to first be convinced that there is a nonzero chance of Russia trying to invade the United States.

I can't believe that Jindal is actually crazy enough to think he could ever be elected, but...
02-24-2009 , 11:28 PM
Does Jindal think everyone watching is 4 years old?

Wow, what a trainwreck. Yeehaw Sheriff!

Volcanoes, eruption...

zzzzz

I've seen some bad rebuttals from both parties. This may take the cake.

So I didn't see this get mentioned, but I can't figure out what was going in with that scene between McCain and Obama yesterday wrt the new presidential helicopter. Was McCain trying to get a dig in on Obama or was he acting as his straight man?

I remember over the course of the campaign when this issue came up, they even specifically referenced the helicopter stuff. If I recall, both were in agreement that it needed to end, McCain was definitely a bit stronger in actually condemning spending more on Marine One than Air Force One. Obama just talked about realizing it was a problem and investigating doing something about it.

I don't think it was a dig at all, just McCain following up on some things he's remained dedicated to in the past and making sure Obama remembers his promise to change things in that area.

Although its interesting to see how others view it (note the title)

I know I am an over the top cynic but can somebody explain to me how in the **** we (the United States) are going to recover from this crap. You guys do understand it really isn't a republican problem or a democrat problem anymore right. I am sure a lot of you guys do.

The government as a whole is just completely out of control. I quit where is my beer?

Haven't you been paying attention? Just keep spending. Even though the president told us to stop spending at the beginning of his speech. Spending is for important people, not little people.

Warning: Content

I am having an argument with my campaign on where to put approximately $1000 of advertising. Here are the options:

1. Cable TV. 1 cent/viewer on Keith Olbermann's show. It can be sort of targeted (I would prefer an older, female demographic)
2. Newspaper display advertising. 1.5-2.5 cents/subscriber. Cannot be targeted, but the demographic that reads local newspapers is probably likely to vote.
3. Direct mail. 15-25 cents/recipient. Can be targeted well (I have a large database of voting histories), but is obviously more expensive.
4. Robocalls. 1.5 cents/call. Can be targeted as well, but people find it annoying. Someone I spoke to here locally had a good experience using it. Keep in mind that you get answering machines the majority of the time anyway.
02-25-2009 , 04:26 AM
Though I know nothing about how effective targeting can be, my intuition is that direct mail isn't 10x as effective as any of the other methods. You probably also have to consider that not all of the subscribers you're paying for w/ the newspaper thing are actually going to see your ad.
02-25-2009 , 04:29 AM
Don't do direct mail.

This was my opinion as well, but the only other person who has a firm opinion has her heart set on direct mail. However, I was not armed with this pricing info at the time.

OTOH, of the methods listed, I'm probably most likely to pay attention to direct mail. I would be curious to hear which methods you guys pay attention to the most.
02-25-2009 , 05:02 AM
I wouldn't respond well to any of those EXCEPT direct mail. I don't watch TV enough to see it, I don't read newspapers (lolol, what is this ,1935?) and I always hang up on recorded messages.
