And this.
Yeah that is also true. Hands are way dirtier, and with more bugs likelier to cause disease, than urine. All the more reason to wash your hands when there is a convenient excuse.

A guy I know from college has gotten in on the ground floor at an Internet TV network that's starting up, and they're looking for anchors/hosts with various expertise, including in politics. I went to school for Broadcast Journalism, and worked in sports broadcasting for about six years, and obviously I have a lot of knowledge about politics.

I'm probably going to reach out to him about it and get a little more info about it and what they're looking for. On the one hand, it would likely be a pretty big pay cut, but it would also have benefits and steady income while still doing something I love. Long-term there's probably more risk in that than in poker, because obviously the network could fold within the first few years and is probably even be a favorite to do so. But the long-term upside is pretty big too - that network could take off, or I could do well enough to get noticed and get onto a major network or land a radio show or something.

So we'll see what happens - first I'm just going to get some more information about it and decide whether to actually apply, but I thought it was something some of you might find interesting. Political jobs are on the short list of things I'd get out of poker for, even with a pay cut... so this qualifies.
Sounds cool.

Best of luck in whatever you decide or whatever happens!

Best of luck. Seems to me that the risk isn't too bad, as going back to poker isn't like applying for your old job, but maybe I'm mistaken.

Re: February LC Thread: Survivor White House Edition

The 76ers, who have two Australian players (Simmons, Bolden) and an Australian head coach, had "Australian Heritage Night" tonight. Before the game, Philadelphia's Australian Rules Football team took to the court for a skills demo. All this Straya love was only slightly undermined when both the commentators and the NBA app referred to what was being demonstrated as "rugby". I have high hopes that Australian Heritage Night #2 will be so fair dinkum, true blue, another-shrimp-on-the-barbie Aussie that people will know what the national sport is called.

Re: February LC Thread: Survivor White House Edition

For as long as I can remember, whenever the local team managed to appear on the national stage, and it's never failed, the announcers always slip up and refer to them by the name of the other school down road. And this even though THEY KNOW DAMN WELL WE'RE WAITING FOR THEM TO **** UP. It doesn't matter that Australia is a whole country that is its own continent, it's hopeless.

Thanks, I appreciate that! I have no idea whether this network's political coverage is going to be more designed towards hosts advocating for views or covering it "down the middle," which would have a major impact on my interest level. So I'm not sure how much I'd be helping to get the message out, but then again, I probably won't be too interested if it's too far from what I'd want it to be.

Like, I'm certainly fine if I get to advocate for my views, and I'm fine playing it down the middle... with the middle being facts/truth/morally justifiable positions. But I'm not on board for some both sidesing.

Obviously in the current climate, if your middle is facts/truth/morals, you're pretty routinely going to be harder on Republicans.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I don't know if I am on the same level as DVaut in terms of sheer intellect or understanding of some of the intricacies of certain issues/history, but I think we both have different strengths/weaknesses in our posting.

Thanks! Yeah, it's not like poker wouldn't be there waiting for me. I might need some time to study up and catch back up to whatever the latest is, but I think I'd be able to do it... and I'd probably still play at least 40-50 hours a month on the side.

But I want to emphasize again, to everyone, this is in the very very preliminary/early stages. Like he won't even know I'm interested until tomorrow, and I've been out of the business for a few years. The chances are definitely under 10% that this turns into something, maybe less than 1%... But I thought it'd be interesting to share on here and see where it leads - it may even branch off into an interesting discussion of the future of news programming, as apparently a lot of this business plan is geared toward mobile platforms.

February LC Thread: Survivor White House Edition

Theres several ways he could diffuse or correct the situation but he chose to grab the kid by the throat and throw him down to the concrete. Bootlicking right wing and rw adjacent types like suzzer love to see the needless expression of force on a weaker/defenseless individual

There were probably just as many ways the kid could have avoided getting thrown to ground as well. Relying on the patience of strangers is not a viable long term strategy.

This is all true but still, don't push kids around like that unless it's absolutely necessary. For example, if Psychopath Jr. there was beating up another kid then I could see the justification. But the adult here just got really frustrated and that's not a great justification.

Right-wing style celebration of violence against people who "deserve it", we hate to see it! You go get him, rep. Grab that moral high ground, buddy.

right, but he's a kid. and if he's acting out for no good reason, he's probably a kid who is getting beaten or molested at home. and after this incident, it will further reinforce the notion inside his head that violence is an effective way to deal with problems.

cool cheerleading tho, that fully grown fatass sure showed him who's boss

what doesn't apply to me?

i'm not cool with abusing children. i give approximately zero ****s about adult abusers who get abused in prison.

not sure why you find this position to be super objectionable. you like what that man did in that video?

i find it galling that i'm not allowed to express some joy at career scumbags roger stone and jeffrey epstein finally getting the prison time they deserve just because i point out that this video suzzer posted is indication that rw and rw adjacent types really just enjoy flexing on children and powerless individuals for no good reason. apples and oranges imo
