Nobosuke Kishi was a minister in the wartime Japanese government, the leader of the Japanese government in Manchuria, and charged as a Class A war criminal before being rehabilitated and becoming one of the most important postwar prime ministers (including in the formation of the LDP, which has held almost continuous power in Japan since the 60s).
Also, while Hirohito (and his successors) lost political power after the war, they still retain a great deal of social influence.
