it's easy to think about this stuff rationally because we're all totally smart and well adjusted adults who have our priorities straight, but you have to consider the impact that stuff like this has on kids who invariably lack in the mental capacity/experience/knowledge/contextual awareness as a result of being kids with underdeveloped brains. grownups tell them that climate change is a serious problem that will destroy the planet if left unchecked and the worst effects will begin some decades down the road when they become grownups. imagine being a child and being told that the planet is on a path to destruction, like you're gonna die, and oh yea, not only are the adults not doing **** about it, but some of them are actively preventing/undermining measures to address it- and that isn't supposed to be traumatic/fear-inducing? then you organize a protest/rally to go speak with somebody who should be on your team, and she calls you an idiot and tells you to **** off. imagine the range of responses that a developing brain might have to this sequence of events, most of them not good.
