No, he disagreed with one of Mat’s drunken posts.

If you have a bike sitting still and sever the bottom spokes of the bike wheel, nothing happens, but if you cut the top ones, the bike will fall down.

Wagons and carriages work the opposite way!

I literally just booked a trip on Delta to Guatemala City. But - Facebook has me thinking about doing it again! Well played AI/ML/BigData/Web3.0/BuzzwordSalad.

Edit: oh for the love of God

I get that these companies don't know if I finished my order or not. But someone is paying a lot of money for this info, and then to make sure it's literally the second thing I see on my FB timeline when I refresh the page. Is that really worth it on the off chance I started to book a ticket and then abandoned it? I didn't really pause FWIW. The whole process of booking took less than 5 minutes.

It has to be that someone is getting fleeced here.

So you're going back to Guatemala? What up? New travel thread?

My younger daughter's HS had an active shooter drill this week. It took hours. Involved police with assault weapons pointed at the kids, including my kid, SWAT, armored military vehicles, marching around with hands up.

My best buddy in HS wants to meet in Antigua (Guatemala, not the island) and watch the NCAA first round like we did last year. He lives in Florida so it's a decent halfway place to meet. Last year was a great time - there's an Irish pub there that is a blast to watch the games. My 50th is a couple days later, so lacking any other big ideas I said ok.

The only thing that was holding me back is he went from ultra-liberal to Trumpfan. And not just like he wants to watch it all burn - but he really thinks Trump is a decent dude. I still can't process it.

We used to talk politics constantly. Since that night last year in Antigua we haven't brought it up and I hope it won't come up on this trip. What we'll talk about when drunk I'm not sure.

But I feel ok about the trip because Antigua is a magical place. It's hard to have a bad time there.

The other funny part is the only other bar with the games on literally has Virginia stuff all over the walls, is owned by a VA alum, and for some weird reason had a bunch of other die-hard VA fans there.

First round - VA is a 1-seed. Still these guys were literally going nuts every time VA scored - like it was the final. Normally as a 1-seed you basically sleep through the first game. We're sitting there like - what's wrong with you guys? It's not like your'e gonna lose.

Aaaaaand then VA becomes not only the first 1-16 loss in history, but gets drubbed by 20 pts. Definitely not missing the VA games there this year.

Have they finished enclosing the campus yet?

And if a fire alarm goes off, they're supposed to wait in their rooms in case it's a shooter that pulled the alarm.

Gate in front is finished. I haven't noticed the rest. And the first response to a shooter is supposed to be to run. I guess run into a fence.

Sounds like the setup for a Die Hard movie.

The movie National Treasure is a national treasure.

Seriously I enjoy it more every time I watch it.

I'll show myself out.

I've never seen it. I might get baked and watch it tonight.

As long as you go in expecting the most preposterous movie ever, you won't be let down.

So far this movie features a lot of Nicholas Cage telling this woman to shut her ***** mouth every time she talks.

That’s totally worth it. Even if you “didn’t finish booking your trip” only like 5 percent of the time, that’s still a way better targeted investment than just sending that ad to randoms.

That is the stupidest stupidest thing I have ever heard, and I’ve heard a lot of stupid things. So let me see if I have this right:

1. They have a fire alarm system that they’re supposed to ignore, instead of, you know, disabling that system in the first place;
2. They have decided that the .00000001 percent chance of an active shooter greatly outweighs like the 1 percent chance of a fire, which if everyone just stays in their classroom for could kill everyone? Do I have this right?
