I was randomly reminded of the album “free to be you and me” recently. I found it on YouTube and listened to it with my kids, I still know almost all the words. Made me pretty ****ing sad tbh. My parent were super-hippies, so I’m not sure how universal the belief that everyone should be content and happy and healthy and....good?... was for other kids in my generation.

I have to disagree with this. Between the nature of the American electoral system (first past the post and only two viable parties) and how evenly the country is currently split between Democrats and Republicans a change in sentiment on even a small part of the electorate can lead to a huge shift in the balance of power.
