She said Trumpenführer is the equivalent of Voldemort. That's why Potter readers who are also Deplorables are mad lol.

Trump is clearly Pius Thicknesse, Bannon is Voldemort

So what's the general take on Trump's SCOTUS pick? I'm trying to avoid the main politards threads for a while for sanity's sake.

Scalia jr

He hasn't murdered any abortion doctors, so the extreme right are concerned he may be soft on anti-choice fascism

Um... this has a point.

Somehow the people who argue that minimum wage increases get passed on to the consumer will find a way to avoid that cognitive dissonance.
02-02-2017 , 12:39 AM
He's more conservative than Scalia according to 538.

Makes WWII look kinda fun. Maybe the Trumpocalypse won't be so bad after all.
02-02-2017 , 12:43 AM
Block Gorsuch and what comes next? Bannon?

My mom on the Muslim ban. She is a retired immigration lawyer.

It is infuriating. I'm considering volunteering with the activities that the immigration bar is working up to,represent some of these folks. I'm out of the loop and might not know what I'm doing but I can answer phones or draft paperwork or petitions. I have also heard of the ICE creeps lurking around a school in Wichita and stopping Mexican looking parents and asking for papers. It's disgusting.
Guess I won't have to withhold my love after all.

Probably still a good idea to neg her a little bit.
02-02-2017 , 12:48 AM
Wasn't your mom pro trump?
02-02-2017 , 12:53 AM
No she hates Trump - but Hillary likes to chop up little babies in the womb - so it's a Sophie's Choice for her.

As I've said before, I'm very skeptical of attempts like this one to quantify judicial ideology. The data analysis that underlies this graph might as well be witchcraft for all the resemblance it bears to a genuinely scientific approach. That said, my personal sense is that Gorsuch will likely be more closely aligned with someone like Roberts given their shared strong views on Chevron. This would be consistent with Trump's overall project of attempting to dismantle the modern administrative state.

Mostly the Senate Dems think he is a generally acceptable pick for a GOP nominee like Alito and Roberts were before him. The opposition is based on Senate politics and what went down in 2016 over the seat, not Gorsuch himself.

Apparently while in prep school he founded a group called "Fascism Forever."

I wish I were just making that up.

And when selecting a quote to put along with his picture in the yearbook at Columbia he went with Kissinger's "The illegal we do immediately. The unconstitutional takes a little longer."
