LirvA,

The thing about cell phones is that they don't work super well when everybody is trying to use them. The notion that they're some sacrosanct tool in situations like this because of their utility in an emergency doesn't hold up. If somebody did make the choice to disable towers, they were only putting the finishing blow on the work already done by the situation itself.

A pyro I know believes the devices were black powder, or pyrodex pipe bombs. He claims this because of low-velocity blast propagation + voluminous quantities of whiteish smoke. He says these are the bombs you build on a shoestring budget in a garage.

from watching the Boston Globe vid it did seem (uneducated opinion) that a bomb expert would have caused more carnage, thankfully that wasn't the case.

Yeah I thought this earlier too. Wasn't there also a time pre-9/11 where anytime anything happened in the world there'd be like 2-3 groups that would immediately claim responsibility (even if they actually had nothing to do with it)? Or am I just imagining that from watching too many 80s/90s movies...

fwiw Shephard Smith was fantastic in his reporting, and imo Fox was >CNN at reporting this.

The explosions were around 2 pm? (central)

I was hoping I wasn't the only one that thought this

Agree. Shep Smith is the last bastion of actual journalism at Fox.

I'm ashamed to admit I don't even know how big AQ is any more. Surely they would have access to some media to get their message out even if they were abysmally small as an organization, right?

I usually like Shep, but I had to turn him off after 10 minutes. He kept speaking in attempted poetry, like he was trying to somehow ensure that he could say something deep and important.

I hope this is an awakening moment for many Americans of what other civilians suffer on a daily basis in the rest of the world. I hope the emotion ITT is shown when non-American civilians are killed. I hope it's not merely "oh look, a drone killed 20 civilians. Oh well, collateral damage."

It's great to see the human side shown here and a respect for human lives. Let's extend it beyond our borders.

CBS with Scott Pelly. He has no ego, and I like his nightly news. His coverage of the matter was noble.

Since you're new here, I'll tell you that pretty much all the regulars in this forum (and anyone who isn't a ****ing rock) feels disgusted when civilians in other countries are killed.

Truthfully, I don't know that I've seen a pro-drone war post. But you're right though that tragedies in other countries don't get much press here, and it's very unfortunate.

Just yesterday one of their groups in Somalia blew up a bunch of **** and they were quick to take credit.

Per Wikipedia, AQ actually never claimed credit for 9/11, or at least they didn't for months afterward. They probably knew **** was going to hit the fan.
04-15-2013 , 10:07 PM
they would probably wait a few days to take credit so their dudes could get out of there whoever planned it.
