Sure seems curious why people would choose to work in this company town for corporate bigwigs when its so obvious that they are being exploited.

I dont know man. read the articles. they set up their friends with economic opportunities rather than provide resources to empower the locals. they refused input from locals and just did wtf they wanted.

ask michael davis, I dunno. I just said that it is understandable that it would look really bad if you actually lived there and everyone was like "here comes the americans and the clintons to save the day" and then after 3 years all that has occurred is a massive company town got built and nothing was in place to help the citizens.

maybe it wasnt clintons fault. the place was corrupt as hell. hell it proly wasnt her their fault. or no, it was their fault. they had the power and ability to do things right.

I dunno. I trust that michael davis is not some deplorable in disguise looking to undermine all liberal ideals like some of the clowns who come thru here (ahem hastendan) and his observational experience is meaningful in a way.

its a dumb derail and there is plenty of other stuff to talk about right now.

is so appallingly arrogant and stupid that it is not at all worth communicating with the originator of such a viewpoint bereft of any sort of intelligence.

hope that helps!

Arrogant and stupid? Does that apply to the Haitians who are being "exploited"?

Arrogant and stupid is thinking that investment in poor countries is bad because wages are low. You ought to spend some time in the third world and talk to factory workers and enlighten them about the pastoral paradise they left behind.

Man I can absolutely assure you the one thing you absolutely do not want is an American leftist talking to third world factory workers.

cool starry.

how about when a natural disaster wrecks their infrastructure, rather than building a garment factory and trailers to educate the kids until they are old enough to work in said factory, the charity actually rebuilds the country? ya know, with roads and sanitation and real schools.

Excuse me for pointing out that you have yet to establish that the factory is less beneficial.

Re: The Presidency of Donald J. Trump

well considering the article says that the factory was built to employ 60k people and instead there are only like 6500...seems less than ideal. but hey, I am sure it was good for someone.

You say this a lot man, maybe teaching isn't the career for you. Have you considered making shoes for $2 an day? Might be more your speed. Look for a factory with good suicide netting.

Since you need your hand held, check this out,

and think real hard about it.

See how offended you got there, then realize the Haitians you're talking about are people just like you. You might get there one day.

Probably not, but no reason not to be optimistic.

Yes learning about things makes you smarter. You should give it a shot instead of smugly parroting the sub-Econ 101 level talking point some Koch Bros astroturf group gave you about how sweatshops are good

Re: The Presidency of Donald J. Trump

You're right, all the factory workers in China are just too stupid to realize they'd all be happier back in the old home as pig farmers. Mother****ers can't even reach econ 101.
