that song is so rapey. i mean the whole song is about pushing a woman into sex, including spiking her drink..
i'm gonna go ahead and paraphrase what i heard yesterday on AM talk radio...

I really can't stay (Baby it's cold outside)
I gotta go away (Baby it's cold outside)
This evening has been (Been hoping that you'd dropped in)
So very nice (I'll hold your hands they're just like ice)
My mother will start to worry (Beautiful what's your hurry?)
My father will be pacing the floor (Listen to the fireplace roar)
So really I'd better scurry (Beautiful please don't hurry)
Well maybe just a half a drink more (I'll put some records on while I pour)

She admits that the evening has been great but she has to leave because her parents don't believe in a women's right to choose and do what she wants with her body. She decides on her own to stay for maybe a half drink more or maybe she'll have five more drinks and stay the night its her choice

The neighbors might think (Baby it's bad out there)
Say what's in this drink? (No cabs to be had out there)
I wish I knew how (Your eyes are like starlight now)
To break this spell (I'll take your hat, your hair looks swell) (Why thank you)
I ought to say no, no, no sir (Mind if move in closer?)
At least I'm gonna say that I tried (What's the sense of hurtin' my pride?)
I really can't stay (Baby don't hold out)
Baby it's cold outside

Her neighbors also are liberal democrats who think they're better than her and she just wants to know the recipe to the drink and also shes having such a great time shes enchanted under this guys spell and just for the haters out there she is going to say she tried to leave just to make you happy

I simply must go (Baby it's cold outside)
The answer is no (But baby it's cold outside)
The welcome has been (How lucky that you dropped in)
So nice and warm (Look out the window at that storm)
My sister will be suspicious (Gosh your lips look delicious!)
My brother will be there at the door (Waves upon a tropical shore)
My maiden aunt's mind is vicious (Gosh your lips are delicious!)
Well maybe just a cigarette more (Never such a blizzard before) (And I don't even smoke)

again she is having a great time and she considers the judgement of her family and rejects their lies and insinuations and they can have sex again and have another cigarette after if she chooses

I've got to get home (Baby you'll freeze out there)
Say lend me a coat? (It's up to your knees out there!)
You've really been grand, (I feel when I touch your hand)
But don't you see? (How can you do this thing to me?)
There's bound to be talk tomorrow (Think of my life long sorrow!)
At least there will be plenty implied (If you caught pneumonia and died!)
I really can't stay (Get over that old out)
Baby it's cold
Baby it's cold outside
Okay fine, just another drink then
That took a lot of convincing!

she keeps staying and having a great time, she even asks him for a coat she obviously hasn't been drugged and raped no matter what everyone thinks

We have other 100k+ post threads that load fine so the number of posts shouldn't affect loading time. All the tweets on a single page break stuff, but that's independent of the length of the thread.

Re: thread. I raised this issue with Wookie back around 100k posts and he floated the idea of starting a new thread. I won't go back and look, but IIRC we got a similar response, which was that some people experienced the slow loading and some people didn't.

I did some testing on my end using Firefox dev tools and found that on average it took 10 seconds or so to load a Trump thread page vs. around 3-4 seconds for a regular short thread. I also looked at the SE FACK (or whatever they call it) and it also took a super long time to load (just took a peek again and had similar results; the thread has 230k posts).

My Google research turned up a lot of discussion about the issue on the vBulletin software--mostly on older versions. Couldn't find anything definitive but I'd be inclined to agree with Suzzer's hypothesis that the issue lies with the backend database part of the page loading pipeline.

Now it's true that pages with lots of embedded Tweets, YouTubes, and images load slower but this is different. The delay I'm talking about is between when you click the link to load the page and when you actually start seeing posts, where the embedded stuff will load a few at a time after their posts load.

One possibility for different experiences: 100 posts/page vs. smaller numbers? I have it set to 100 and would be curious to hear what others who do or don't experience the problem use.

FWIW, I don't really care if the thread gets split or not. I devised a workaround: right-click open in new tab, then while the Trump thread grinds to life I look at one of the other threads in my original tab. (My setup: Firefox on Win10/nice computer/**** internet.)

I always assume it's the back end, because it happens after the page is loaded in my browser. I click the Quote button to quote someone's post, and it just sits there waiting for a long time before the new page even starts to load. That can't be about the embedded tweets.

Stories started coming out like a year ago. I stopped following him on Twitter bc it was the first thing to come mind when he posted. DS makes me queasy enough as it is.

eta After reading the tweeted story, what I'd heard actually dates from 2014. When I saw it it had followed a string of other stories of other science douchebags.

deGrasse Tyson Response

Pluto made him do it. I want to be fair to the guy but I dunno. The pattern is just too familiar.

To the surprise of no one the accounts given by Neil deGrasse Tyson are rather harmless. Is there a good link to the version of events given by the accusers?

Even in the report itself, the two non-rape ones sound like ~nothing.

EDIT: The assistant one could be something, but more specifics are needed.

I vote leave Pres thread as is.

Had to vote Whitacker, but I think there should now be a three or more of the above option.

Someone did a FOIA on Whitacker. Love the punctuation an FTC lawyer used in an email when they were trying to track him down for a subpoena.

"You're not going to believe this... Matt Whitaker is now chief of staff to the Attorney General. Of the United States."

So was there a conversation on the new president of Mexico? My brother in law is Mexican and is very hopeful. Says he's the Bernidito Sandersito of Mexico.

Also it seems like a good way to twist an ankle far from medical help.

I go hiking all the time but also weigh 260 lbs. Trail running is not remotely a temptation.
12-02-2018 , 11:27 PM
On the other hand, if you don't act like a prey animal you either scare it off or confuse it. This guy has the right idea; if he took off running he'd be dead.
