Beat: 2017 goofyballer has the hard drives from that machine (and no other desktop hardware capable of using them) sitting in a closet. Is there some series of cables/adapters that will let me hook up a SATA hard drive to, say, my laptop's USB?
Like this?

I have it and it works.

Well, you could invest in Google, but I don't think it's much of a bargain.

Investing in AI is like investing in car companies in 1910. Lotta players but who knows how things will shake out. Would be better to get like four 18 y/o geniuses under contract and secure the rights to their work.

Imagin if we recruited smart kids in a manner similar to baseball players.

I've transacted maybe 10 bitcoin over time for poker deposits but hadn't checked my wallet in a few years. I checked the other day and had like 0.001 bitcoin. Thought I might have had a full one.

Not so fast.

Does your estate in the middle of a large city burning down due to fires caused by anomalous weather conditions have an effect similar to that of conservatives who have their kid come out as gay, but for global warming?

I think it's a small winery (in the middle of LA) and a secondary residence. The land alone is worth plenty, and it's probably mainly used a tax shelter (money losing winery on blue chip land).

I don't think pic is his house, or a winery.

I was headed past there this morning, but went back home because the freeway was closed.

No, estates can be replaced.Connections to global warming can be denied.

Yeah, I think it's the Leo Baeck Temple.

Confirmed not Murdoch's house.

https://www.google.com/maps/@34.0864.../data=!3m1!1e3

The building by the highway is a Jewish temple. Murdoch's vineyard appears to be behind that burning hill.

The area up above that building used to have about 20 homes.

Think you're right. It's off the freeway a bit.

I'd like to take this opportunity to tell all the dumb, rich Californians who build their homes right up to the edge of parched forests and scrub brush that non-combustible construction is a thing, and it isn't much more expensive than the kindling they all seem to insist on using.

Some of this is a legacy issue. There are still hillside areas with homes more than 40 years old and still even wood shake roofs in some of those areas. Places that have burned and rebuilt like Laguna or the Oakland Hills have been rebuilt to different standards.

Defend Liberty and pay yourself $300k/yr when you would otherwise be driving an Uber. Sweet deal. Nice to have a right wing nutter justice with a right-wing nutter wife...but we really need to be concerned with an FBI agent who sends texts to his girlfriend saying Trump is an idiot, much like his Secretary of State and his National Security Advisor (the current one, not the one who pled guilty).

We're so far into the land of make believe that something has to give.

And I think that land has appreciated so much that you probably did not lose much financially unless you bought in the last year or so. It's a "rebuilding opportunity", likely with a nice insurance payout.

From the fires? Personal tragedies of course, but a lot of people in these areas will make a lot of money when the neighborhoods of new even fancier houses are built. The burn areas in the Oakland Hills worked out like that.
