Putin's reach in the US is limited, so pretty doubtful he's in danger that way. But Trump however likes to pull from the Russian playbook, so who knows? Comey may end up sleeping with the fishes the day before he's scheduled to testify.

Putin could have people killed in the US easy. I don't think it's likely because Comey is a prominent American. I wouldn't put it past Putin to assassinate Russians in the US the same way it's happened in western Europe.

Comey won't get offed for the same reason Carter Page won't. By being known, your death becomes a much bigger problem politically speaking if it happens. If Carter Page faded into the background and was never on TV after the election, he could be whacked and it'd be on page 15 of the newspaper at best.

Works for Putin so ??? I don't get this stuff, they don't kill people in other countries because they think it's a bigger problem than the opposite.

Reality is Page isn't worth anything and I'm under the impression comey isn't gonna deliver what people think. Not that it'd matter anyway.

A few things here:

A. Former FBI directors surely aren't easy targets for assassination attempts.

B. This guy is meticulous about documenting everything. Presumably even if you kill him his notes are still gonna get released.

C. It's not a bad outcome for Russia if Trump gets impeached. They still managed to disrupt the country for a while, instill chaos, and debase the trust in our elections. They can pretty much cut Trump loose at any time.

I figure ~zero chance he gets assassinated.

Don't know what others think, but I expect Comey to confirm public reports from a first hand experience and under penalty of perjury. He may reveal some other small items, but the majority of what he knows will be withheld due to the classified nature or out of respect for Mueller's investigation.

Putin gets away with killing his opponents because of Russia's lack of checks and balances. He may run into some public resistance, but the lasting repercussions just aren't there. He sure as hell won't get arrested, but still goes out of his way to be steps removed and to deny allegations.

As much as Trump wants our system to be more like Russia's (now that he's in power of course), even he realizes that offing Comey is worse for him overall than letting Comey testify. There would be major backlash in the public and press, and there would be intense legal and congressional scrutiny.

That said, Trump has been known to massively misjudge things when he's backed into a corner, so who knows?
