It's possible Comey was fired for being critical, but it is perhaps also true Comey was fired for following an investigation that leads to no where as if there really was some Trump-Russia connection kind've smoking gun it would've been found by now.

"The reason Comey was fired" doesn't exist, and probably doesn't matter. Here's why:

There's are many reasons Comey was fired. We know it's Russia. Even Trump says it's Russia LOL. But this is one case where supporters don't believe him. They still deny it, claiming Clinton or Comey sucks or whatever. What Trumpets don't seem to understand is that it's hugely problematic even if Russia was 0.01% of the decision. GOP Republicans are smarter than that and do realize it. Some did care enough to make half-assed statements. Fewer actually cared more than that. But most are hiding. We'll find out more when GOP gets back.

Post feels kinda rambly, so I'll just close off by saying that there WAS an effect on supporters, according to TV today. They said Trump's approval rating went from 40% to 36% after the firing, a good portion of which we're Republicans. EDIT: Does anyone have this graph? I think it was a Q poll, through May 9th.

I'm not going to judge the effect until we have multiple polls and over a longer time period. It's especially hard to have solid polling data on something that happened this week.

#NotAllVoxIsBad, and this is pretty OK but more important relevant since einbert and I were talking about the feedback loop in which liberals get upset at what Trump does, which causes the right to get further dragooned into Trumpism since no one wants to get caught kowtowing to liberal outrage.

One other facet to that, or a very related phenomenon, is how with every Trump **** up, he simply ratchets up the tribal politics and brings the rest of the GOP and its entertainment complex along for the ride:

The core problem for the GOPe and the Senate's Pretend Heros of the Republic who are thoughtfully Deeply Troubled by all of Trump's trangressions before either doing nothing or tacitly supporting it remains that GOP voters largely see their side through white identity politics and NOT through tax cuts and deregulation. So *they* -- the base, the rank-and-file -- they are not going to accept the GOPe type solutions where Trump is removed and they get what for them are entirely Pyrrhic legislative victories. They don't want tax cuts. They want ****ing blood.

We can either wait for the GOPe to cut themselves free from the feedback loop and do the right thing; something that just looks more unlikely with each passing day.

Or we can simply start punishing them and threatening them specifically for *their* transgressions acquiescing to this.

For the same reason the FBI doesn't tell you what evidence they have against you before they interrogate you. Comey is a prosecutor and is likely more focus on scoring prosecution points than political points. Also, any beans he spills could potentially compromise an ongoing investigation.

I have been to a couple/few of their shows and can confirm a lot of explicit shenanigans going on. I remembered that they stopped touring because they were constantly in legal trouble. According to Wikipedia they haven't been active since 2002 though and I wonder how hot they still are today considering the band was originally formed in 1984.

Yes, I saw them in Germany. The first time I heard of them was when they were supposed to play at a festival in the Netherlands (Dynamo Open Air). The authorities threatened to shut down the festival if they get on stage.
