Trump could succeed in steps that effectively dismantle the investigation. But I don't think he can escape the leaks. I suspect there's damaging info out there, and if it can't be presented in the traditional way, it will be shown in a different kind of forum. The FBI lifers may step up to save us. It may not happen right away, but I think it could happen.

LUL, Trump thought this would be a super popular move. Not only is Trump dumb, but he projects his way of thinking onto others and believes that everyone else thinks like him. Also explains his "Who ever knew that [super complicated issue] was so complicated?" thing. Because apparently if Trump didn't know it, no one else did.

On the wild speculation front I am leaning towards a completely marginalized Bannon trying to do something destructive and pushing this hard.

I mentioned the Presidency of Trump thread but Amash just last week 1) voted for the ACHA despite claiming he would never and then 2) immediately expressed regret over it.

These people aren't going to do anything. Tons of Republicans have mastered the fine art of expressing dismay at whatever Trump just did only to line up behind him or do nothing. They learned no one faces any blowback or penalty for this and it's simply a triangulation strategy to keep the mainstream media happy. They are all mini John McCains and faux Mavericks out there pining for pretend Profile in Courage awards where they get credit for brave tweets questioning Trump before they eventually do nothing at all or line up behind him.

Trump knew firing Comey would be unpopular, the White House saying otherwise on background is just PR to boost the idea that Trump fired Comey for legitimate reasons. 'I was just doing what you Democrats wanted me to do aw shucks why are you so mad?'

Maybe this time it will be different but don't see why anyone would predict that now. Republicans have made their bets and staked their horse.
