I'd disagree. If you read ChrisV's longer post he does sum up how white supremacy is played out currently, through white grievances. In that feeling that liberals are trying to tell good hard working white folk that they should be ashamed of their ancestors and that we should 100% focus on all the bad things white people in the past did when all the white person wants to do is think that grand pappy fought in a war honorably. Sure, slavery is bad, they'll even say it. Isn't that enough?

That's how it plays out. The summation of that is, of course, a history and narrative tilted towards white supremacy.

I have lived in the South almost all my life and have never seen a black man sporting the confederate battle flag.

I have, however, seen the flag flying in certain places up North.

As the preceding posts demonstrate, white supremacy, alas, is a big tent.

When I was a wee lad a group of towns women petitioned for a statue to be erected in the Town Square to honor the Confederacy. The group was an offshoot of an offshoot of the Daughters of the Confederacy.

The town council said no, hell no.

For a short time after that the women then handed out flyers extolling a memorial for the Confederacy in front of the local grocery story. Fortunately, they stopped doing this after a week or two, and were never heard of again (as far as I can remember).

Did I mention that I grew up in Wisconsin??

Did not expect that. Nice.

I can assure you there are some in Richmond Virginia. There are confederate lubbers on Monument Ave all the time and occasionally you'll find a black guy or two.

Republican commissioner Tim Sutton, a chartered member of the Sons of the Confederacy, then alluded to his family once owning slaves, as first reported in the Times News.

“I am not ashamed of my great-grandfather. He did what he did,” he said. “It is my understanding that when he died ... that some guys on the farm, you can call them slaves if you want to, but I would just call them workers...

“I am not going to be a victim of political correctness. I am just not going to do it. Label me all you want, say what you will about me"

The organizer of a far-right rally last year in Charlottesville, Virginia, that turned deadly is planning to hold a rally near the White House in Washington on the first anniversary of the event, federal officials said on Wednesday.

Jason Kessler filed an application last month and it has been approved to hold what he described as a “white civil rights rally” on Aug. 11-12, although a permit has not yet been issued, Mike Litterst, a spokesman for the National Park Service, said in an email.

OMG will those plucky teens be able to save their breakdance studio nazi tattoo parlor from the evil local boss who wants to build a strip mall breakdance studio?

If this thing actually happens, I'm having a tough time seeing how this doesn't get at least a little violent.

Title actually fitting now, but I hope the permit is denied. There is an anime convention (Otakon) being held at the convetion center about a mile away. Over 25000 people are expected in town for that convention for the entire weekend. Seems like a disaster waiting to happen.

Your circles are too far apart imo.

Most of the anime audience is tweens and early teens.

Update: the Nazis are applying for a permit to hold their rally in DC. Which is a great venue bc the cowardly ****s won’t be able to bring their guns and they’ll be surrounded by an army of counterprotestors.

JFC dude. Are you ever not an *******?

Not going to lie, if the counter protesters were dressed like that I'd side with them.

Yeah I don't think these guys have figured out that Washington DC isn't a white nationalist haven in spite of the occupancy of the White House.

Update: the cosplayers are still scheduled to have their get-together this weekend, though it’s not clear how many will show up. Lots of alt-right spokesmen are telling people not to go, AirBnB is banning Nazis (nice!).

DC’s summer weather is horrible for people wearing full body armor, and firearms are strictly illegal. Would not be surprised if all of the Nazis are no-shows. Traffic will be much more tightly controlled than in Charlottesville.

Watching the Nazis get dunked on by Otakon cosplayers would be sick.

From what they said on Chapo today, all the hardcore Nazi sites like Daily Stormer etc are all adamant that they cannot rally. Too many people getting doxxed.
08-10-2018 , 11:12 AM
If you told me I had to attend either a Nazi rally or "Otakon", it would be a tough call. I guess I would expect there to be more women at Otakon. There's a sentence that has never been uttered in the English language before.

I think you’d be surprised how many girls are into anime and/or dressing up like their favorite anime.

You're making me want the rally to happen.
