Brexit Referendum Brexit Referendum

From Pestons twitter...

A short extension will be possible conditional on a positive vote in House of Commons” says @eucopresident. So Brexit delay requires MPs to back PM’s deal at third attempt

Labour now faces choice between backing May’s deal and no deal.

But isn't MV3 ruled out unless it's substantially different?

The betting markets say otherwise.

Wouldn't be anymore likely imo, for various reasons.

I think so too. Wouldn't want to live in NI though...

The influx of Americans telling us all about it is a welcome addition to the nonsense in this thread.

Yes it is.

No.

They need a majority to change the rules to allow another vote. So if they have a majority to pass her deal, they will have a majority to change the rules.

Unless there are some MPs who would vote for her deal but before that would vote against having an opportunity to vote for it??

Will make sod all difference obv but still kinda cathartic watching it tick up https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/241584

They will, it's just a case of whether we get out before the elections or wait until the one surviving Chuckle Brother wins a landslide victory in Yorkshire

It's quite possible that sufficient change will be made to the motion to allow another vote.
03-20-2019 , 04:06 PM
AFAIK changing the departure date would count as sufficient change alone.
03-20-2019 , 04:13 PM
I suspect so.

People are also reading too much into the EU's response imo. Thy have only agreed this extension request if the withdrawal deal goes through but that in no way implies they wont consider other extension requests if it becomes necessary and they make sense.

The more talk of revocation, the more a 2nd referendum become the sensible compromise.

So, predictably, she says
1) My deal on 23 may / 30 june
2) No deal on 29 march
(I think she wrote that speech during the delay.)

No deal it is.

Good luck with that, last time the UK´s requests made sense was a while ago.

The difficulty in getting all the member states to even agree a short extension should show how impossible it will be to get out of the backstop.

So what you are telling us; is the difficulty to get the EU to an agreement that allows the UK to stay (Because we want UK out) shows how difficult it would be to get an agreement on letting the UK go?

When you have control over a foreign entity (as the EU will over a UK in the backstop) and you can control their taxes tarriffs and laws, as well as dividing their country up into separate areas, why would you give that power up? You only would for a heavy price.

If what you said was true then thats fine, an exit mechanism to the backstop and the deal would pass. but funnily enough the EU wont do that.
03-20-2019 , 05:42 PM
When you imply that the EU is deviously trying to trap the UK, let's not forget that the current backstop version is due to UK demands. In the original proposal only NI was in and the rest of the UK was outside the customs union, w/ the regulatory border in the Irish Sea.
