Brexit Referendum Brexit Referendum

It can hardly be put down as racist and xenophobic voters. You really think that 17.4 million Brits are saying 'they taking all r jobs init. Make britain back british, bloody foreigners' etc.
The country is divided, thats for sure, but, there has been alot of civil unrest brewing for decades now.

Cable has bounced back nicely. Or poorly for my new friend that was long USD.

Trump will cause a stock market rally. If you carefully watch the markets, whenever it looked like Sanders made progress the markets dropped. It is very easy to see why. Carefully watch election days of the past 3 decades.

The stock market will be lower at the open, but at the end of the day (month or year) GB may in fact have a stronger pound and a higher market. US market and the European market might drop as they will be less valuable compared to the lb and the UK.

Things are not always as they seem.

I'm not sure where you've been lately, but that is exactly what they are saying and it is all that they are saying. (Or 'Death to traitors, freedom for Britain' as somebody put it.)

why would 1 or 2 states want to stay in the EU if they are holding all the weight and 'subsidizing"? the only reason I would want to stay if I was heavily benefiting from it and I was making all the rules since I was the one that was carrying eveyone else on my back

we can trace this all the way back to over a decade if you think about it the ripple effect of those two planes hitting the Twin Towers in New York started something that has led to this decision in some part

Nationalism, Populism, and Demagoguery is all the rage.

They will crush the UK economy, just by looking after their own interests. The large banks for instance will have to be HQ'd in an EU country and hold sufficient capital for EU regs. Unless they raise huge amounts of extra capital for a new EU subsidiary, they will either move completely into the EU boosting EU jobs or entirely abandon the EU. Either way bad for the UK.

Markets are in quandary right now.

Hey guys its bad news.

Hey guys bad news means QE and no IR rises.

Dreadful decision.

My local result was 58% leave, so talking to people locally it's not the biggest shock. I'm just a bit gutted. I thought remain was clearly the correct decision.
06-24-2016 , 05:16 AM
Yeah. The people in my office who voted leave now say they didnt really think too much about it and wish they hadn't. Just amazing really.

Weakening the remain side and Britain in general as we start exit negotiations would be even dumber than giving the British public the referendum in the first place.
lol Phill

If every Scottish leave vote had voted remain the result would have been the same.

Good luck Scots.

Because more than half of our gdp comes from exports and again a little more than half goes to EU countries.

Having a common European market is the only way our economy is sustainable.

capitalism in its finest. the eu knows that Britain will still need to buy European for a lot of goods so will have high tariffs and the uk can do sweet **** all. as for uk exports, who is going to buy brittish beef in Europe with a tariff when they can buy off their neighbour for cheaper. wp UK, great choice

It would appear otherwise.

barclays & rbs down ~20%

must admit there's something quite appealing in the working class rising up and causing massive arseache for the banks

The maps are quite interesting, if not a little depressing.

Oxford and Cambridge both 70%+ remain.

I'm glad I'm living in one of the very few 60%+ remain places in England, although that probably explains why the result was such a shock to me.
06-24-2016 , 05:27 AM
For such an important referendum they should have made everyone vote... Been following the news through the night as was on nightshift, living as a non british citizen in Scotland here... Im shocked but hey ho, sure it will be all better in 5-10 years...

Spoiler:
Not

In what alternative reality are you living in?

EU has a pretty consistent history of making an example out of countries that decline to participate in (or just threaten to leave) the United States of Europe project. There are huge incentives to just **** over UK for the EU here, not the least of which is it's politically expedient.

Look at Greece, Norway, Greenland, hell, Italy/Spain. They all ended up with treaties/deals that favored the EU. UK is going to get ****ed on stuff where it got special treatment only to try to essentially become a member of the EU again, only without the ability to vote.

Bloody brilliant.
