Brexit Referendum Brexit Referendum

she's not dead yet

Quite. See my edit.

She really, really needs to go.

Hunt is the worst,
Javid is the worst too
after that it goes into a bit of a decline

I want the "Referendum because we've torn the Tory party in two" candidate, whichever of those **nts that is.

Hunt as prime minister reminds me of an old satirical movie with Peter Cook called The Rise and Rise of Michael Rimmer, about a guy who just kept his mouth shut and kept manipulating situations to get higher and higher up the political tree

Raab is clear choice imo. Having another Remainer in charge would be ridiculous.
12-11-2018 , 06:00 PM
Most backbenchers are remainer or soft Brexiters though ie certainly anti hard-Brexit (and a number of them want a referendum). It's hard to imagine them voting for any of the market leaders.

Next big question is will the main tory contenders do a deal before the confidence vote.

That could increase the danger for May dramatically (or strengthen her if it's someone hated enough)

Typically for him, Johnson was rumoured a couple of days ago to be offering jobs in his cabinet, which probably explains why the sociopathic Patel has been cosying up to him.

I wonder if the EU are thinking they should promise May a cookie

re next leader: I have long has the suspicion that it might be gove.

That surprises me. Even after his very public back stabbing of Johnson last time, and his support for Mays deal now?

He's strongly rumoured to be very disliked by the PCP.

And I think people will expect a PM to fit their idea of what a PM should like like, which is what did it in for Beckett and Miliband, and is one reason I think Hunt is a good price, the other being that, like Major, he doesn't appear to have made many enemies.

C'mon guys, must be a leaver for obvious reasons, can't be Johnson or Gove for obvious reasons, that just leaves Raab

I agree that when you consider gove then it's ludicrous that even the tories would chose him as leader and pm. But that's true of all of them. I sort of know what you mean about hunt but again <aargh>

My suspicion is based on a fair number wanting boris but him being unacceptable to too many. Gove is from the same group, is an intellectual/competence giant compared to boris, is a leaver, has been loyal to May ....

I dunno maybe the 'the field' is a decent favorite. Hurts head to think about it too much.

I think Gove has a good chance. Personal pick would be Javid.

What about Javid?
12-12-2018 , 03:07 AM
Javid was a remainer? Although yeah, I don't get the argument why it has to be a leaver - it's not like Rabb will wave a magic wand, get the EU to cave in on a bunch of stuff and get a deal through Parliament.

The only realistic option for any PM is a people's vote, so far better for the Tory's to get someone in who can hold things together however that result falls, and that's Javid imo.

Trigger pulled on the race

Yep BBC confirmed it's on

Rab has a decent shot I suppose. The european patrol group hate the deal though (not just the backstop) and Rab may be a bit too tied to it.

I'd say the winner will be determined by what tories want do do

Remain prob Javid
Leave Raab
Not sure Hunt

I think there is a very decent chance May survives the vote. Will be interesting what the betting lines are.

Oh that would be terrible.

Only thing worse is if Hunt becomes leader

You know that woman who takes all the punches and hits, and then becomes a crash pad in Austin Powers?

That's May, that is.
12-12-2018 , 04:50 AM
May coming out swinging. Delivering a speech at Downing Street now.

Never in my lifetime has there been such an incompetent prime minister as Theresa May. Shocking it has taken this long to challenge her. We have been damaged in the last 18 months as a country.

David Davis no doubt having a lol to himself this morning.
