This is probably already old news by the time I post this but ...

Trump said he would not ask FBI to look into these allegations.

FBI said it would not look into these allegations since they only look into things that could pose national security threats (or words to that effect) when they do background checks on judicial nominees.

So the Republicans want the victim to testify on Monday, limit everything to just her testimony, then introduce some testimony of Kavanagh's childhood friends saying they never saw drinking or pool parties in high school, then wash their hands of the issue saying it's a he said she said with a hint of she's lying, then call up the vote?

I'm inclined to think Ford is declining to testify for personal reasons but declining to testify also happens to be the proper move for political reasons.

There is an implicit threat here. "You railroad this, a book and/or an op-ed is coming just in time for the midterms. And by the way, I am blonde, white, female, at least decent looking (judging by few pics available), and not Hilary. I can just tell people I was the victim and they'd believe me."

This is an L for the GOP considering there are any number of people that can play the role Kavanaugh is intended to play (rule in favor of stuff that helps rich people). In their desire to derisk the nomination by shoving Kavanaugh through, they are going to have to live with putting a binge-drinking would-be rapist on the SCOTUS.
