So on the Opening Arguments podcast they discussed Rick Scott's plan to appoint replacements for 3 liberal FL SCt justices who are age-limited out the same day he ceases to be governor. This is obviously a terrible abuse that has never happened in FL before, but it made me think of the so-called Biden Rule and how Scott will not even have to pretend that he's not attempting to just wield maximum power, even in direct contradiction to the will of voters, and despite precedent and a common-sense reading of the law. Republicans will do anything to get power, thinking up legalistic excuses and related distractions is just part of the PR cleanup effort. (Some groups have filed suit against Scott's move, but the court decided a few months ago the case wasn't yet ripe. Now the new governor may have to have a rapid swearing-in at 12:01 am.)
