Collins will be troubled. Concerned perhaps.

Clarence Thomas says hi.

Her story is entirely believable. She was probably right that it won't matter. She was definitely right that her life would be changed for the worse. I'm glad she came forward.

Being a little rapey just proves that he'll be a stalwart conservative.

Sadly, this is one thing that is far too common on both sides.

Perhaps, but if he were a dem nominee he'd be withdrawn.

For sure. Ignoring it is pure conservative.

Trump doesn't care. It's all about who will be the nicest to him regarding Mueller.

Maybe I'm too cynical (though I think it's pretty damn hard to be too cynical anytime Republicans are involved) but I can't imagine Collins/Murkowski treating this as anything more than something to be "very concerned" about before voting yes.

And she first contacted WaPo about this in July when Kavanaugh was on the shortlist but was yet to be nominated.

PredictIt is back up to 60%, I'm surprised this even moved the needle that much. I love this, at the top of the WaPo story:

Quote:
Senate Republicans signaled they plan to move ahead on Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination despite a decades-old sexual misconduct allegation.

The statement from Judiciary Committee Republicans came shortly after The Washington Post published a story Sunday afternoon that included an on-the-record interview with the woman alleging the sexual misconduct, Christine Blasey Ford. The committee Republicans said it was disturbing that the allegation was never brought to the attention of the full panel previously.
R: "It's disturbing that you guys didn't tell us about this"
D: "We should postpone the vote then"
R: "Oh, hahahaha, no, we don't actually give a ****"

btw wait for "she's a registered Democrat and has donated to Democrats" to be all over Fox News, which is definitely a good faith argument since the GOP took Roy Moore's Republican accusers so seriously

she's a california professor

R voters weren't gonna believe her anyway but sheesh @ adding fuel on that hate fire.

A lawyer close to the White House said the nomination will not be withdrawn.

“No way, not even a hint of it,” the lawyer said. “If anything, it’s the opposite. If somebody can be brought down by accusations like this, then you, me, every man certainly should be worried. We can all be accused of something.”

did DC ever get a house vote? I remember that discussion but don't remember if it got anywhere. They obviously should. I don't think they should get a senate vote but a state shouldn't have more senators than house reps at this point.

No; they, like Puerto Rico, have one non-voting representative.

DC has more people than Vermont and Wyoming; Puerto Rico has more people than 21 (!!) states.

Puerto Rico imo has a shot at getting statehood in 2021+ DC less so, they could probably get incorporated into Maryland or Virginia.

I have a really hard time imagining either of those states (particularly Virginia) being on board with that plan.
