Brett Kavanaugh - Interest & Discussion Brett Kavanaugh - Interest & Discussion

The idea that a federal judge who has been on the short list for SCOTUS wouldn't know whether an attorney he is speaking to is employed by an extremely prominent law firm, and the firm who represents the president, is laughable. Like, 100% completely implausible. It's not like Kavanaugh goes around just talking to 2nd year biglaw associates about the news of the day. If he's having a conversation with someone about the Mueller investigation, he knows who it is.

It would be extremely rare that I wouldn't know what firm a fellow lawyer works for when I'm talking with them over lunch or drinks, and I'm very averse to networking and hobnobbing and general lawyer bull**** that someone like Kavanaugh would love.

Any comments from Susan "He said it was settled law!" Collins?

A federal judge has all kinds of engagements where they are asked for their opinions on piles of things. Different social settings may mean he says something without thinking too much about it. For example, if one of his thousands of former students bumps into him and they just talk while waiting for coffee or something.

If Kavanaugh loves to "network," then it's even more believable he wouldn't know everyone he talked to.

Kasowitz Benson Torres is really not that big. They only hired 8 summer associates in 2016 according to vault.com and isn't even listed in V100 or any of the "up and coming"/regional/specialty ranking lists. Vault, citing the American Lawyer says it is the 137th largest law firm in the US.

Just a dose of common sense. C'mon.

Attack Kavanaugh for his positions and lies about his positions on executive power, gun rights, and torture, not for his response to Harris' idiotic line of questioning.

I don’t believe Harris has dirt on a conversation or agreement between kavanaugh and someone working for trump’s ex-lawyer’s firm. When she said, “be careful how you answer this” or something, that’s a bluff. The point of that line of questioning was to throw him off and **** with him

That said, i’m very confident kavenaugh did in fact secretly agree to help trump obstruct justice and all that, sure. He’s a scumbag.

There is no scenario where he was randomly talking about the case, socially and high level, to a group that unknowingly included an intern from that firm at a cocktail party and it comes back to haunt him because of this question. The point of the question was clear. The point of pretending he couldn't possibly answer the question was also clear.

But when she says BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL HOW YOU ANSWER THIS SIR even if Kavenaugh has no idea what she's talking about if he takes her seriously at all he would be quite confused and would understandably want some clarification.

Yeah. Real confusing.

I may have had a casual conversation with someone from that firm unknowingly, but no conversation with anyone that I can recall with anyone I knew worked there.

Or---he knows he did. But didn't answer the question.

The guy that refers to birth control as abortion-inducing drugs totes thinks Roe is settled law.

Let's say Kavanaugh believes this is the case, it would still be dumb for him to affirmatively say no to Harris' question without spending time to search his memory bank.

He's human.

But he didn't do that. He dodged it entirely without even saying he was not sure...just saying he wouldn't be ABLE to be sure if he were actually not sure. Plenty of cases where he could be sure though, isn't there?

Kavanaugh not wanting to answer the question because he might not know the answer is fine.

It's the way he answered that is interesting. He was squirmy and totally shook. It was so bad that one of the Republicans had to bail him out.

This is a guy up for nomination to the Supreme Court, not some rando. If he had confidently answered "I'm not sure because I don't know every lawyer who works at that firm", then nobody would be talking about this.

Maybe he has something to hide. Maybe he doesn't, and just gave a really bad answer. We don't know.

Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything.

Just bring it.

He did answer!

Harris: Did you talk to anyone at law firm about Mueller? BE VERY CAREFUL WITH ANSWER!!!!

Kav: Well, uh, I'm not remembering but if you have something you wanna

He said he didn't remember any such conversation. Then because Harris made it clear she was claiming to have specific information that he did talk to someone, he asked her to tell him who she was thinking of to refresh his memory. She refused, because...

Believe in something, even if it means scoring points with your base in preparation for your imminent presidential run. Profiles in courage here folks.

I think it's great that Booker leaked the documents and pissed folks off but let's not pretend that he will pay any political price for doing so. It will help him.

Fighting the libs on every point, even the ones they're not making: KEEEEEEEEEED'S personal Vietnam

Maybe his problem was more with dice than Nationals tickets.

Why do you play Devil's Advocate on EVERY SINGLE ISSUE? Are you Chris Cazilla or something? It gets tiresome bro.

Agree with this, other than the Klocowitz firm being prominent. Appeals court judges aren't known for yucking it up with every Tom, Dick, and Harry. And, generally, they shouldn't have too much in the way of communications with lawyers (other than occasional speeches). Also, lawyers know what firms other lawyer work at.

Lol. Booker doing awesome job getting Trump pissed at Kavanaugh.
09-06-2018 , 06:37 PM
Considering how much lawyers look down on civilians, lawyers looking down on other lawyers sounds really funny to me.

Wasn't clear to me until clicking through, but worth noting Kavanaugh wrote that email.

Also in that chain, written by someone else:

Quote:
Me too. <redacted> -- great job organizing and captaining. <redacted> and <redacted>, excellent first mate job. <redacted> and <redacted>, excellent lunches. Brett, excellent diet coke drinking. Truly, though, I had a great time. It's wonderful looking back and looking forward with you guys. Let's try to stay in better touch during the year.

It looked like he was getting into the weeds for a bit but I loved his finish. He seemed to plant the seed in Kavanaugh's mind about the *appearance* of impropriety.

Also Kavanaugh up to some frat boy hijinks where he references his dice (?) habit and not to tell his spouse reminds me:
