Kavanaugh aligned most closely with Roberts, as they both voted in the same direction in all but one of Kavanaugh’s first set of decisions. After Roberts, Kavanaugh voted in the same direction as Alito in all but two instances and Breyer in all but three instances.
And both of his 5-4s were joining the 4 conservatives. Cool story setting the bar at "Gorsuch" tho

2016 has ****ed this country for 20 more years - maybe worse.

Yeah, if you want to see where someone is on the spectrum, the best thing is to look at where they are on the 5-4 decisions only. Looking at the other decisions just confounds things.

Above is somewhat of an oversimplification, but should lead to the correct conclusions most of the time.

Kav being only the 4th most conservative (by the article's grouping) might shine a ray of optimism, especially with Roberts starting to swing and Kav voting almost identically with him

Breyer and Kagan suck and are conservative on lots of issues. But I wouldn't put much stock in drunk boy voting with them on 7-2, 8-1, 9-0 decisions. He's not gonna swing the court on nything of actual importance.

Conveniently enough, we seem to be really good at re-****ing ourselves every 16-20 years if we haven't gotten around to it just yet.

20?

W was a world class POS president and he was in office 11 years ago! Tanked the economy worse than anyone thought possible plus 500k dead people for literally no reason other than money for his friends.

We’ve had unabated garbage since 1980, with the exception of one “ok” run from 08-16

Well I was just referring to royally ****ing up and electing a new guy to totally **** the country, so 2000 to 2016, hence 16-20 years. I don't know if it's fair to call Clinton unabated garbage as president (as opposed to as a person), but I was only six when he was elected and 10 when he was re-elected, so it's hard for me to really say in the context of the time.

Originally I was thinking Nixon -> Reagan -> W -> Trump, but you could argue to add HW or remove W depending on how you classify it. Like if we're focusing on just completely ****ing us on judges and policy and racism, you might drop W, who gave us Roberts and Alito who are way better than anybody Trump, Reagan or Nixon would have appointed. While W may not be a bastion of racial equality, he's also way better than Trump/Reagan/Nixon on that front, and probably better than your average or median Congressional Republican on topics of race in 2019.

If we're focusing on foreign policy and the world at large, or total number of innocents killed by actions taken as president, you are then debating Trump (climate change over the long run) vs. W (wars) as the worst.

But in the context of this thread and being ****ed on the judiciary for 20 years, I would probably drop W off the list who at least gave us Roberts... and it seems like almost every time there's a Looney Tunes ruling by a federal court, the judges involved are Nixon/Reagan/Trump appointees, rarely a W appointee.

i feel like i wanna give the simulation writers some credit here tho. super epic plot twist if roberts and KAV go down as heroes in american history for teaming up to thwart trump and the "conservative" bloc. believable too, since most "conservatives" and especially KAV, are nothing more than amoral, self-centered grifters to begin with.

thomas, alito, gorsuch, they're ideological puritans in their contempt for the common man. i could totally see guys like roberts and KAV being more concerned with their personal legacies and the potential to go down in disgrace as nothing more than useful stooges appointed by the two most incompetent presidents of the past 100 years. i mean, historians and academics are going to scrutinize them and write books about them and ****.

ever the optimist that i am, i'm holding out hope that we get some surprises on some key cases in the next 5-10 years.
