don't think anyone believes he is a tyrannical dictator, yet.
read the thread again then.

currently he is a power obsessed potentially very dangerous leader. things can get ugly quickly if he cont. to get involved in economic policies in this aspect someone like augosto pinochet would be better for the country, economic freedom tends to foster freedom in other areas as well.
If you think Pinochet > Chavez then you dont have a ****ing clue about latin american politics. (Pinochet gave the rich all kinda special benefits btw including bailouts when they went broke btw)
Chavez is a potentially dangerous man, I agree on that. I understand concerns about him actually becoming a dictator because those are concerns I have as well.
The problem is that the venezuelan left should continue but changing the people in charge, hopefully with leaders with a much more moderate rhetoric and that make consistent economic policies. For some reason I dont understand they all support Chavez.
Chavez seems to be blackmailing the population because the right is so ****ing disgusting that people will still vote for him.
Venezuela seems ****ed up whatever they do, if the right wins the election then people will claim socialism failed and all the bad things that you said about Venezuela will continue to happen but you just wont care about it just like you dont really care that the colombian state has killed thousands of peasants, just like you dont care that the peruvian state killed indigenous people that didnt want to pass their land to american companies, etc.
If the left wins then obviously the elections are rigged.
I didnt have a chance to expand on Chavez chances before but they depend exclusively on what he does because the right is basically anti-Chavez.
He has to solve a number of issues in two years, I thought he was going to lose with the current oil prices I think he is going to win.
I think that a right wing goverment might not be a bad thing igiven the Chavez supporter controll the congress, on one hand we will have a right wing that is now aware they cant **** with the poor like they did for 2 decades because if they do another populist leader will assume the power and at the same time the socialist will not allow the goverment to make radical changes towards free market policies.

could not care one single bit if he does manage to improve the life of the poor in venezuela short term, i doubt he is doing it out of care and compassion and contrary to many lefists my memory when it comes to lefistist dictators isn't selective.
What if he improves the life of the poor in the long term? What if Venezuela keeps the advances he has made in education, healthcare, etc and changed the bad stuff?

who wants to see venezuela becoming the next cuba, which as far as socialist states are concerned has to be one of the better ones? only hardcore socialists would want tha
Nobody wants Venezuela to become Cuba, in fact it wont be possible because Venezuela has oil, as long as Venezuela has oil they wont really have socialism there its only state capitalism.
edit: the judge you linked is not in jail anymore, she is in her house but has to stay her all the time ( dont know how that is called in english).
According to a pro-Chavez website all the political prisioners are criminals claiming to be actual political prisioners.
edit 2: similar stuff happens in Chile but since we have free market policies you dont hear about it.
As a question, what punishment should a judge that releases somebody she shouldnt have released get?
