In short: white supremacy hurts everyone, even white people! But without it, white people couldn't have their whiteness, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
(recommend the episode btw - it's obvious when you think about it, but they really highlight now stark and ****ed up it is that our starting point for talking about education in America is accepting "separate but equal", something that was declared unconstitutional a generation ago, as the goal of education reform)
+1 to this episode. One other point that I thought was really good was when they talked about money laundering, and the (perhaps explicitly stated?) fact that NYC couldn't aggressively pursue money laundering violations because it would destroy their economy. There's no chance that the same logic would ever be applied to, like, Baltimore - no way can we aggressively pursue drug violations because that's going to destroy the community.
I had never thought of it in those terms, and it was pretty striking for me to have it presented that way.
[Edit: Skimming the transcript, I don't see this conversation at all. Now I'm wondering if I heard it somewhere else or if I'm losing my mind.]
