My sneaking theory is that many of the university founders of the 19th century were themselves not university graduates and the founding of a quality university is partially an FU to certain elite social class.

Regardless, i will henceforth stop donating to my alma mater and instead direct the money towards my local community college. It is a minuscule amount but I hopr I can persuade others to follow suit.

Everything's more expensive now, getting the land in a desirable location to start a university from scratch seems like a waste of time when you can just write a check to your alma mater.

Would it have necessarily been better for Hillary of she were virtually unopposed for nomination? The whole feeling that it was her turn was not an attractive thing outside of the party faithful.

Abdul is an underdog but I don’t think Shri will win a close 3-way so I’m not worried about protecting Gretchen who I think would be great too. I think if there’s a progressive surge it’ll go to Abdul but I think he’d be a favorite if Shri dropped out which he suspiciously won’t, even though he’s gotten like zero endorsements and he’s campaigning on almost the exact same platform as Abdul

yeah, i kinda went off on this restaurant the other day (on the eastcoast) that wouldn't provide my father a straw at first. he is in a wheelchair, has parkinson's disease and definitely isnt gonna make taking a sip out of a water glass look pretty in a restaurant. eventually they said they did have straws but for kids. and i was like, why the hell are we still talking then? get him the straw.
