You don’t get a pass because lots of people agree with you.

Yeah, that thread is full of talk about the <checks Mason's post> economy. (or any talk of policy whatsoever). It does include chat about how some races just like to commit crimes more though.

Sorry for just quoting myself, but:

Again, the (vague) criteria I've suggested for evaluating where on the spectrum to draw the line is based on how mainstream a position is. If a policy or idea is part of the GOP platform, it should be a legitimate topic of political conversation, and people should be allowed to express support for that policy or idea. If (for example) the view that transgender identity isn't "real" is the dominant view in our society, it should be a legitimate topic of conversation. Anti-semitic conspiracy theories are not legitimate topics. Obviously there are gray areas and difficult judgement calls in between, but that is what moderation is about.

From my perspective, tolerance for discussion makes sense as much from the standpoint of consciousness raising and social activism as it does from any other standpoint. You can't effectively ostracize people out of holding views you disagree with when half the population holds those views. You can when it's only 10%.

So Augieland is an April fools joke, right?
04-01-2019 , 08:07 PM
So c'mon WN. Isn't time for you to mod a politics forum again?

Words like "****" and "*******" and "*****" are commonly heard on primetime TV shows nowadays. Why do you censor them on your site? (also serious)

I just met with this old roofer and within 30 seconds of meeting he was talking to me about a coup d'etat and George Soros and plans to move millions of people here and move everyone off the coasts.

Ya, most of the country thought mlk and the civil Rights movement we're wrong. That didn't make them right.

The economy is not "super strong". I mean, for the super rich it is, but when roughly 80% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck, that doesn't seem like a characteristic of a healthy economy to me.

I have a strong feeling that with Trump and his entire family fully exonerated by a thorough (albeit partisan and illegal) FBI criminal investigation, at least half of the "disapprove" people will wake up to see a booming economy and start supporting Our President and Our Brave Troops Overseas. That fact coupled with a stiff crackdown on illegal voters will ultimately give rise to a permanent republican majority across all three branches of government.

And if anything other than that happens I will absolutely ****ing lose my ****.

Wouldn't tptb relish the # of hits a forum like 8chan or whatever gets? In my experience, owners of sites like this care less about the quality of content and more about how many hits that content is generating. (I could list some examples from this site where this sentiment was vocalized in no uncertain terms, but I won't, for the sake of peace.)

I could be wrong, but it seems kinda obvious to me. Saying 'omg you don't want to be whatever terrible site that oh hey sidenote gets tremendous traffic' is probably not going to be effective IMHO. Bc... they do want to be a site that gets tremendous traffic, and whether the site is terrible or not would certainly be debatable from their perspective IN that instance.

Anyway..

Tldr, you guys are appealing to the wrong sensibilities re tptb

a few years ago 2p2 cracked down on bikini pics in bbv4l because they were worried about advertisers. i would THINK that moving the tone of these boards more towards the messageboard that livestreamed a racist murder spree would look worse to advertisers than girls in swimsuits but i'm not a businessman.

The economy has been strong and growing for some time, but it only counts when a Republican is in office. Because when the Obama was in office and the economy was strong the poor farmers and coal miners were all left behind and stuff. But now the farmers and coal miners are doing awesome, I think. I mean they must be.
