I approve this message.

AOC is of course attractive, and that matters more than many people think in business and politics, but her killer talent seems to be her charisma. She has a lot of Obama and some of Bill Clinton in her. The right hasn't figured out how to attack her in an effective way, and not for lack of trying. Hope she does well and runs for Senate in a couple of years. Would love to see her cross examine witnesses in hearings.

I'm hoping she has none of Bill Clinton in her. Politically that is.

i know that's a joke but maybe banworthy considering she's like the bootstrappiest/least politically plugged in candidate to get elected this year and it's incredibly insulting

also she's an enormous danger to the clintons of the D party. this joke is really terrible on like every level, you should feel ashamed

The first time I read this I was like, "What? Then her constituents just pick the electors and then they pick the president who then runs things." Then I realized he's just saying Ocasio's constituents shouldn't have a say in governing period and the electoral college is just a convenient mechanism to disenfranchise people and therefore it is good.

The one line of attack I keep seeing from right wing news outlets, and thus parroted by right wing idiots on FB, is that she is "economically illiterate". They're really trying to make that stick.

Since whataboutism is such a frequent trick by these clowns, I would just respond with one myself:

Donald Trump thought health insurance cost $12 per year.

Or just ask them what % of the federal budget is foreign aid. Or better still tell them to **** off and block them.

She has a degree in economics and probably knows more economics than 95% of the people commenting on TV, whose job is more to pretend they know things than the actual knowing of things. Economics as discussed on TV is a joke (except on a few shows like the PBS Newshour). Even on "financial TV", the economics leans more toward stock broker/trader lingo than actual economic analysis. The guests know more about lacrosse than economics.

BTW, isn't it about time PBS does another charlie rose show. I mean it's not that hard. Hire ezra klien, chris hayes, ian bremmer, or whomever and have them talk to someone about what they know. Or go yolo and hire matt yglesias. Probably 100k people in the US could do a decent job hosting such a show and I miss it, damnit.

I don't really understand why Fox and Republicans have latched on to her as a focal point of attack over any of the other congresspeople with less traditional backgrounds. It seems like a pretty big mistake, but what do I know.

I think it definitely gets eyeballs, which is all FNC cares about (remember, they started out anti Trump). She triggers deplorables HARD. Young, attractive, liberal (unabashedly so), outspoken, gives zero ****s about respecting old white people, a great troll, checks all the boxes for getting the haters furious.
11-19-2018 , 11:20 AM
They are making her so much stronger and more powerful/infulential than she would be if they just ignored her.

Pretty amazing. Though I guess that works out well for them in the longrun too.

One of the keys to understanding the modern political climate is that the political extremes are symbiotic on each other and have lots of game-theoretic opportunities to cooperate at the expense of the center. AOC and Fox News is a great example. It's good for both FNC and AOC for Fox to attack her, even if she comes off well to people on the left under fire. There are lots of similar pairings these days. A lot of pro-choice/pro-life debates; antifa vs. fascists; Trump vs. the media (not really the same since the media are not on the political left, but it's a similar dynamic).

Arguably a lot of the dysfunction of American democracy is that it was built to accommodate two big centrally controlled parties fighting each other, but we now have a bunch of political factions that are simultaneously fighting each other for control of their parties while also competing across the aisle to win elections.
