Yeah, it's important to keep BOTH these in minds when Trumpkins pretend it's anything besides cultural resentment:

1) Their concern for the white working class is totally insincere, they really don't give a **** about them, either

2) But critically, there's nothing unique to the white working class to address and any leftwing attempt to be pro-WWC as a way to judoflip Trump voters back to the Democrats is doomed to failure on the merits

By the way, I do think we should have sympathy for the ailing coal miner.

Compared to most of what is on TV it wasn't that bad.

so trump has yet to attend a public religious service since taking office

can you imagine how big a deal fox would have made out of that if obama or hillary did the same? Would be a counter on every program every hour of the day

There's no excuse for watching bad TV these days. I feel like I'm seeing maybe 20% of the stuff out there that's worth watching, at most.

Not to really pick a side on whether we should or not, but one big difference is the 70k (whatever the number is) remaining coal jobs are all concentrated in one area (so the surrounding area is highly dependent on those jobs) and those people have a really deep-seated self-identity which makes it easy to pander to them. The 85k or whatever retail workers that got laid off in the last year all all spread out all over the country and those people don't think of themselves as career GAP clerks so you can't exploit their predicament politically.

BTW, that reminds me. Sean Spicer is a grade A dip**** and moron, but I'll give him one thing, his apology for the dumb ****ing "hitler didn't gas anyone" comments was pretty good. He didn't mushmouth some bull**** apology, he wasn't sorry that other people were offended, he ****ing owned it 100% and admitted he was a moron. I can't remember the last time a beltway insider was that blunt.
04-15-2017 , 06:50 PM
Almost a shame he's beyond redemption.

FWIW I hope TRUMP keeps him around, I have a soft spot for him from the early days when he was wearing the huge suit with the gigantic collar gap on his jacket.
04-15-2017 , 07:53 PM
I mean, just imagine if TRUMP had a competent word wizard working that job, jesus christ it's frightening.
04-15-2017 , 07:56 PM
Even the world's foremost word wizard couldn't defend Trump.

Re: Coal

They had the former Energy Secretary (an MIT nuclear physicist) on NPR a few weeks ago, and he was saying that Trump's coal push will do almost nothing to help workers, because of a distinction between Western and Eastern coal. Apparently, coal miners in West Virginia will be as **** out of luck as in Obama's tenure, because Trump's deregulation makes Western coal massively more profitable, and that kind of coal mining is almost completely automated. Even the trucks drive themselves.

Yeah this. Kellyanne Conway is not a moron, and she has no moral compunction about her job, but it's just impossible to defend his level of bull**** without looking like a crazy person.

Our congressman has not had a town hall ever, over 10 years... his logic is that it is too dangerous, not worried about himself, but that some innocent person could be shot. He is a staunch opponent of gun regulation, tho.

Republicans love guns, want them in every household. Terrified by democracy though.

Nice, that's nice.

In other news, the Daily Fail, among other purveyors of fake news, was fooled by an obviously fake story about a couple attempting IVF finding out they were twins separated at birth.

The scoop

The fail

The world is turning towards fascism. Germany is becoming the leader of a much smaller free world.

Genuinely dangerous times. I figure the world can handle a certain amount of authoritarian/lunatic regimes at once without everywhere being ****ed but we're getting far too close to a tipping point where the whole thing comes tumbling down. Cannot believe I'm actually saying that and believing it. Just hope France holds out next Sunday.
