rumors of no joint signing ceremony, schedules being shifted, early press conference, pessimism of progress.

Because Americans do not want to take even a small risk of seeing great numbers of other Americans dying, North Korean leaders need not worry about being militarily overthrown by us as long as it appears that they have a five percent chance of getting one nuke through and killing a few hundred thousand. Exactly what arsenal that would mean for them I don't know. But it is the Nash equilibrium that I predict we will eventually get to.

Depends how you’re defining “Americans” and “other Americans” here.

They've got a ****load of conventional weapons capable of firing on Seoul, and there's not much anyone could to do stop them from being fired.

Any attack on NK means millions dead in SK. I don't think they need any more deterrent than that.

And some Americans even don't want 20 million Koreans to get killed.

tbh this whole thing feels like a farce orchestrated to keep everyone from talking about Mueller and Trump's various and sundry legal troubles. Trump was already trying to tamp down expectations even before he saw Kim ("I'm not worried about speed" or whatever bull**** line that was)

Maybe Trump likes getting out of the house sometimes too and he doesn't get met with huge protests in totalitarian countries.

I think many on the right wouldn't care as long as it is not them.

North Korea will never give up all their Nukes. I wouldn't as just look at Libya and the Iran deal that Trump did not honor.

If they were smart they would try and give up most and keep a few and agree not to develop more.

I know that nothing matters but who picked Vietnam as the location for the summit? This must be the worst possible choice.
It can‘t be in Trump’s interest to remind people that he infamously dodged military service in Vietnam for spurious reasons.
More importantly the Vietnam war was a conflict in a divided country between the communist North, supported by China and Russia, and the US-aligned South. That sounds eerily familiar. A war the US eventually lost despite its military supremacy.

There aren't many options and Trump doesn't want to go to Sweden and get protested.

Uh, has this been posted?

Quote:
At the conclusion of his Hanoi summit with Mr Kim, Mr Trump told reporters he talked with Mr Kim about the “horrible” Warmbier case.

“He knew the case very well, but he knew it later,” Mr Trump said, adding that “some really bad things” happened to Mr Warmbier while he was detained.

Mr Kim “tells me that he didn’t know about it, and I will take him at his word”.
