America & North Korea America & North Korea

Last week was the Syria thread. This week is North Korea. I know trash talk is pretty standard for them, but it has reached an insanely scary level on both sides. Here's the latest:

North Korea state media warns of nuclear strike if provoked as US warships approach

North Korea Threatens 'Toughest Counteraction' After U.S. Moves Navy Ships

And from Trump:

Are we headed for trouble?

After seeing how trigger happy the Donald was in Syria I think there's a decent chance he hits a North-Korean launch platform. I don't think North-Korea can do a lot of damage to the USA

USA will be fine. GG Seoul.

Just give Pyongyang the next four Olympics, they'll be bankrupt soon enough.

How capable is the carrier strike group that got repositioned out there at intercepting ICBMs? Like the next time NK test fires a missle off could this carrier group shoot it out of the sky?

I hope so, and I hope that's exactly what happens every time here on out. I'd have to begrudgingly give Mattis / Trump / whoever some props.

Guess he meant it when he said America First.

Who voted with the idea of taking him seriously but not literally?

I remember the US running practice drills for missile interception about a month ago I think. Not sure if they were part of the joint military drills we conducted with South Korea.

It would definitely be interesting to know if the strike group has orders like that, and if they are posed to intercept anything that NK launches.

Also, according to what the State has been saying in those articles from the OP, it seems like North Korea is already framing the US as the "bad guy invasion party", in case they want to strike first and claim self defense to the rest of the world...or play victim if we make the first move.

south korea gonna host the nuclear winter olympics this year instead.

US warships have no defense against tactical ballistic missiles. The anti-ballistic missile systems the US has deployed against NK yo protect the mainland have limited effectiveness.

this. trump said he hates telegraphing his military strikes. even though he kinda did that with syria already. this is 100% trump bluffing, and for literally no reason

This dance has been repeating for decades. North Korean actions are primarily for domestic consumption, and now so are the White House's.

I have confidence our military will confine Drumpf's provocations to Twitter. No way do they want a repeat of the 1950 war, where the US invasion of North Korea was smashed by China.

he was testing the waters with syria. the russians knew about the chemical weapons launch before it happened, so it's possible trump could too if they were colluding through dark web whatsapp backchannels on wordswithfriends. he saw his poll numbers go up, time to move up to higher stakes, where they have to respect your bluffs

Satellite photos show North Korean nuclear site 'primed and ready'
Quote:
North Korean monitoring service 38 North said Wednesday the country's Punggye-ri nuclear site is "primed and ready" for a sixth nuclear test.

"The activity during the past six weeks is suggestive of the final preparations for a test," 38 North analyst Joseph Bermudez told CNN.

Their prediction comes as Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Thursday that North Korea may have the capability to deliver missiles equipped with sarin nerve gas.
Those were the two big NK headlines overnight. 1) NK says to expect a "big event" Thursday, and 2) Sarin gas possibly attached to missiles.

#1 confuses me a little. I was under the impression from other recent news reports that April 15th (Saturday) is the day to watch for their next big event because of Kim's granddaddy's anniversary or something.

They may not do a nuclear test on Saturday due to the risk of failure. They have tended not to run their biggest tests on April 15, but they'll usually have a big military parade and shoot off some missiles that they know work.
04-13-2017 , 11:38 AM
...and then we get to shoot them down? *giddy*

Yup.

Wouldn't want to ruin the Eternal President's legacy by failing on his day of commemoration.

Word is that the US is threatening non-nuclear strikes if NK tries a nuke test.

Lol at all those trump voters who thought he wouldn't provoke ww3

http://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/u-...uclear-n746366

"The U.S. is prepared to launch a preemptive strike with conventional weapons against North Korea should officials become convinced that North Korea is about to follow through with a nuclear weapons test, multiple senior U.S. intelligence officials told NBC News.

North Korea has warned that a "big event" is near, and U.S. officials say signs point to a nuclear test that could come as early as this weekend."

Thing is, will he be able to brag about doing it within the first 100 days?
04-13-2017 , 07:39 PM
Maybe we can ask Dennis Rodman to sit down with Trump for 10 minutes?

"Word is". LOL

Wow, must be true then.

are people really still on the "he (or they) doesn't really want to start a war" brigade?

They all want war. Idiots. Jesus christ.

You would think after literally being wrong about everything all the time they might finally buy a clue. Sadly, GOP tax breaks never reach the "wrong all the time" crowd.

So what's the ideal (while still being reasonable) outcome w/ N. Korea, assuming the relevant status quo foreign policy through Obama is maintained?

Asked another way, what eventually would happen before North Korea could gain the ability to use ICBMs to deliver nuclear weapons to their desired targets?
