China son. China.

We're China's biggest trading partner and they are ours. I think war with China, beyond a limited conflict totally restricted outside of our territories, is impossible. China may make an invasion of NK too difficult, but we could bomb them for a year or a decade.

Trump wants to go to war so, so badly.

He's totally excited about sending young men and women to die for no reason.

The inevitable bump in his approval rating would be a "reason".

Sorry, I thought you meant stocks like a stock market.

Although I don't think the NK government provides accurate information to its citizens regarding uranium stocks, or anything for that matter, so I don't think this would be much of an obstacle.

yeah, his tweets against his adviser's pleas pretty much confirm that he is hoping to get provoked.

Dumbass GOP congressman from rural San Diego County says we should preemptively strike NK

Reason: because they have missiles pointed at us, stunning logic that only ever goes one way

craziest part of that article is that the voice of reason and truth quoted in that article is...Steve Bannon

So it appears as though our beloved Trump State Department is blissfully unaware that NK already has nukes

10-02-2017 , 12:21 PM
Nice. Spokesperson for the US Department of State. (and former co-host of Fox and Friends)
10-02-2017 , 12:22 PM
That's one explanation. There is yet to be a consensus on whether NK possesses a hydrogen bomb or that they can attach a nuclear warhead to a long range missile. Beneath the rhetoric it's all ifs and buts at this point. After Iraq phantom WMD we should be highly sceptical of American intelligence claims.

Not that op-ed writers have the greatest perspective on the world or anything, but Nicholas Kristof writes about a recent visit to North Korea

Quote:
I’ve been covering North Korea on and off since the 1980s, and this five-day trip has left me more alarmed than ever about the risks of a catastrophic confrontation.
...
Far more than when I previously visited, North Korea is galvanizing its people to expect a nuclear war with the United States. High school students march in the streets in military uniform every day to denounce America. Posters and billboards along the public roads show missiles destroying the U.S. Capitol and shredding the American flag.
Quote:
I told [foreign minister] Choe [Kang-il] that my visit gave me a sense of déjà vu, reminding me of a trip to Saddam Hussein’s Iraq on the eve of the American invasion. The difference is that a war here would be not just a regional disaster but a nuclear cataclysm.

Choe was unimpressed by my warning. He said that Iraq and Libya had made the mistake of giving up their nuclear programs; in each case, America then ousted the regime. He added that the lesson was obvious, so North Korea will never negotiate away its nuclear warheads.
Quote:
I leave North Korea with the same sense of foreboding that I felt after leaving Saddam’s Iraq in 2002. War is preventable, but I’m not sure it will be prevented.

Kim promotes sister to Politburo

Quote:
The promotion, reported by North Korean state media, indicates that the 28-year-old has replaced Kim Jong-un’s aunt, Kim Kyong Hee, who was a key decision maker when former leader Kim Jong-il was alive.

“It shows that her portfolio and writ is far more substantive than previously believed and it is a further consolidation of the Kim family’s power,” said Michael Madden, a North Korea expert at Johns Hopkins University’s 38 North website.

Quote:
In a speech to a meeting of the powerful Central Committee of the ruling Workers’ Party on Saturday, Kim said his nuclear weapons were a “powerful deterrent” which guarantee North Korea’s sovereignty.
Perhaps 'guarantee' is a little strong?

What he is saying is that millions of deaths would happen if try and take out KJU.
10-11-2017 , 12:29 PM
It's clear what he's saying, but it doesn't prevent a nutter like Trump from destroying his country and therefore his sovereignty anyway.
10-11-2017 , 08:55 PM
I don't think his promise comes with a money back guarantee.

Joint Chiefs say invasion 'only way' to totally disarm N Korea

A Pentagon assessment has declared the only way to completely destroy all parts of North Korea's nuclear weapons programme is through a ground invasion.
11-05-2017 , 03:59 PM
That's good news masquerading as something bad and ominous-sounding. The pentagon is saying that a limited war can't work so if Trump tries to escalate things doves can point to this assessment that pretty clearly shows confronting NK militarily is madness.
11-05-2017 , 05:07 PM
The Joint Chiefs also fear that Pyongyang would use biological weapons in a conflict, despite international conventions banning their use, as well as chemical weapons - which it has never agreed to abandon.
"It likely possesses a [chemical weapons] stockpile," the letter said.

If they have them it's because they remember when the US used such weapons against them during the Korean War and it's basic self defense.
But note 'likely'. So more BS. WMD mark 2 obv and people getting fooled again.
