It would make a pretty big difference, and she didn't specify, which makes me think it's more likely to be a recent addition.

Luntz obviously gamed this panel, the only thing approximating a real Republican is the old nail salon owner lady in the back fuming about George Soros and the people who are nodding along like, yessss, she finally said what we were all thinking. That's the real Republican Party when the cameras are off.

Everyone else here is on their best behavior. Brown sweater guy who admits Roy Moore is a terrible person but is voting for him anyway is doing his absolute best to keep up the appearance of a normal human being. The rest are trying way too hard, like that fat bald guy who thinks the difference between Bill Clinton's accusers and Roy Moore's accusers is something about court papers before he gives himself a backpat. Like I said, the only real Republican here is the old nail salon lady who got bored with Luntz ****ing with them and was finally like "no George Soros Jew agitated them, **** you" which is what they were all really thinking but they knew better than to say out loud.

You can't get real Republican opinions in a setting like this. They have to be in front of the computer mashing out a chain mail or about to drop a comment on a YouTube video of a black lady who is on an Obamaphone saying she doesn't have to pay for gas because she knows a guy who takes her EBT card or whatever. That's how you observe True Republican behavior in the wild and get to what they're really thinking, just as they are about to hit the caps lock and let it fly. These settings are way too performative and get these people on their best behavior.

Although even on their best behavior, we continue to find moments to astonish ourselves with.

Luntz: can we really dismiss all 352 of Moore's accusers?
Group: they are all paid!
Luntz: ...and why don't black people vote for Republicans?
Group: brainwashed!

I liked...

Luntz: Does it bother you that your candidates can't get votes from African Americans?

Deplorable: Isn't the better question why African Americans wouldn't vote for him?

I'd almost feel bad for her, if not for the whole, she's going to vote for a pedophile thing.

She followed up with what, do they think it's okay to abort at nine months? It's just so sad to see what happens to people who cannot discern quality sources.

That was a really painful video to watch.

Was odd that nobody under 60 was in the focus group and that everybody was white because it implies that deplorables are limited to that demographic.

There aren't many black Republicans in Alabama, Jones is going to be between 95 and 99% among African Americans. If they filmed during the day on a weekday, that accounts for the skew toward retirement age.

It would be an interesting thought experiment how Alabama would vote if black people were removed from the state. You'd think all GOP if it were not clear that why they vote GOP is the same reason blacks vote Dem. Also, if any Republicans are reading this, please do not attempt this thought experiment in real life.

I was talking about the guys with Confederate flags on their pickups. Some of them probably vote Democrat if they vote at all. Agreed that it's a mistake to think that Moore's support is not mainly well-off Auburn and Alabama alums, and while it's true that they mostly prefer Bourbon to Budweiser, a lot of them do like hunting hogs (and bass fishing).

It's possible, but it's much better supported by abundant evidence to suppose that they are acting in bad faith and simply do not care that Moore has a long history of chasing after 14 years olds, because they don't see anything too wrong with it, and he's one of theirs.

The conventional wisdom (so possibly wrong) about the Trump election and the polls is that a lot of voters wouldn't admit publicly their intention to vote for Trump, but then voted for Trump. Is it not possible that the same will happen in Alabama, to Moore's disadvantage? That is, a lot of Republicans won't admit publicly that they intend to vote for Doug Jones because they find Moore disgusting, but will vote against Moore at the ballot? Something like that happened in 1980 when Mack Mattingly was elected to the Senate in GA over Herman Talmadge (in the analogy, the Democrat Talmadge equals Moore, and the Republican Mattingly equals Jones). I know a committed Democrat who admits that once in his life he voted Republican, to get Talmadge out of office.

People are not going to shoot themselves in the foot (elect a Democrat when they want a Republican). The Washington Post and the accusers could have run this story before the primary and Alabama'd be electng Mr. Strange on Tuesday, but instead they wanted to game the system and stick Alabamans with an unwanted Democrat. Thanks a lot Washngton Post, Roy Moore is your senator of choice now.

No, I think you have it backwards. They know Moore is deplorable and don’t necessarily want to catch flack for voting for another sexual predator, so perhaps they don’t say so in a poll, but then snap vote Moore in the voting booth.

Oh sure. I'm just trying to emphasize the social dynamics of voting in the South, and the state of the Democratic brand among educated whites in the deep South.

As hard as it is to believe, a lot of people who are voting for Moore are educated. They at least claim not to agree with a lot of what Moore says and does, they know that they not not supposed to be racist or sexist, and they don't believe that they are racist or sexist.

What is your evidence that the Washington Post had this story locked and loaded and sat on it? I find that impossible to believe, because the story would have been worth much less if Strange had won the primary, which very easily could have happened.

I think my favorite part was "sure lots of women have accused him but only two of them had smoking guns!"

Only two.

To be fair this is a good question in that having her ask it to actual black people means they'd actually have black people answering why they wouldn't vote for Roy Moore and not why they think black people won't vote for Roy Moore, but it's not going to happen.

Notice it doesn't matter if it's true, only that not getting tricked by the liberal media is more important.
