I think if they had that info and wanted to defeat him, they'd have leaked it during the primary. Their problem with Moore isn't that he's a huge racist etc, it's that he's a loose cannon who is not under the control of the establishment. It's the same reason they didn't want Trump.
True, but 30 million is an insane amount to defeat someone who'd possibly be a loose cannon. He still likely votes for everything Trump wants

I don't think it's far fetched a lot of Republican government officials were also aware of this and had heard rumblings of these even worse allegations. Like, they probably didn't have the proof that WaPo dug up, but they had probably heard the stories from people who worked with Moore back then. So they didn't have the proof to flat out expose him like WaPo, and decided to try and defeat him in case the allegations came to light and spent an insane amount of money to do so.
