haven't seen anything about the Vegas shooting on 2+2...so i guess ill knock this to the top. I don't know much about it, just saw it flash on the news at a friends house for a few minutes. Seems serious

I was posting in gun thread but at least 20 dead and 100 injured.

One shooter was on 32nd floor of Mandalay Bay shooting into concert crowd w automatic weapon.

Reports of potentially other shooters as well but seems pretty unclear.

Reports now are that there was only one shooter, who is dead. Police seek one Marilou Danley, an Asian female described as a companion of the shooter. If they know her name, it seems likely the shooter was known to police.

This has to reopen debate on magazine size, weapon power etc, surely.

Apparently shooter was local Vegas resident. Concert was Jason Aldean. They are looking for an associate of shooter a 4’11” Asian lady.

Tons of bots and new accounts trying to spread FUD on social media.

Since the shooter was apparently known to police and automatic weapons are not usually the domain of Islamists, I'm guessing non brown on this one. So the terrorism thread is inappropriate, and in fact the discussion should probably be moved to BBV so as to avoid politicizing the issue.

The only way to stop a bad guy with a fully automatic weapon is a good guy with a fully automatic weapon and also a personal jetpack for accessing 29th floor balconies when required.

Regardless of who did this it is a political issue AND a terrorist attack.

On another note reading back a few hours on Twitter was tons of chaos and false rumors as at one time they had shootings at 4 different strip hotels and a bomb at Luxor. But Vegas pd has pretty emphatically stated they believe only one shooter at one location and they are dead.

Even if the guy was on the ground and not attacking from a positional advantage, he had an automatic weapon, presumably with an illegally extended magazine. So Joe Hero is going to pull his .22 that he carries concealed with 8-10 rounds and square off with a lunatic with a fully automatic rifle with probably a 40+ round magazine? Oh, and the guy with the military-grade weapon obviously got the jump on Joe Hero, too, because he's planned it.

Right. There's very little publicly available information on Paddock. Twitter/4chan/Reddit have him down as either a rich white Republican, a Native American sex offender or a Hispanic gang member. So rest easy, everyone, the Internet is on it.

(I appreciate the irony of that coming from me, as I admittedly was Googling and searching trying to get info - but I also don't post names, or post rank speculation as fact.)

What lol. I thought that was your first name. That was far and away the obvious candidate from the searching i did, but I didnt look into his background. I was so sure that I repeated to a friend "looks like it was Stephen Paddock, an anti Trump guy".

An NBC reporter tweeted that Paddock, the dead gunman, did have a criminal record. But he may not be the same Stephen Paddock as the one with the downloading-indecent-images conviction.

I thought the other guy was more likely because of a bunch of posts on forums and social media about hearing the other name on the scanner as the suspect. Although, now that I search the other name and the word scanner, there are some results for that, too.
