To get DACA-status you have to fulfill a specific requirements for moral behavior, clean record and education / military service.
A lot of people have managed to do that, the thanks they're getting is being referred to as "illegals" by a lot of politicians wanting to appeal to the right-wing. The far right-wing is gobbling it up and releasing massive amounts of propaganda that equates them with people who actually commit hard crime. Then it gets picked up by certain news outlets which report the milder portions of said propaganda, this infects the mainstream and you rinse / repeat.
So basically you have a bunch of people who have their lives together, who have worked hard to get a resident status that allows them to stay legally, who has demonstrated good morals, good careers and who has achieved education or done honorable military service. I'm sure we can find a few rotten apples, but the proposed standard is still pretty high.
And the thanks these near 1 million people get get is to be used as political rhetoric and lumped in with murderers from MS-13 because that narrative makes democrats look bad.
It's one of the biggest betrayals in modern American politics.
