Look at FL Gov election for the GOP.
DeSantis-901K votes
Putnam-595K votes
Now look at the Dems.
Gillum-490K
Graham-462K
Levine-294K
Greene-150K
(From CNN front page)
Pretty much 100K more R voters than D voters. And this is with Trump being hated by anyone that's not GOP. This is why the GOP doesn't do **** about Trump. No one is showing up to vote. You know all the R voters will vote in November for De****stain while the D voters are gonna ****ing write in Mickey Mouse or something.
The final tallies I'm seeing are:
GOP 1,623,442
Dem 1,514,774
So that's a ratio of 1.07 to 1 in favor of the GOP. Not great, but there's a much bigger picture here. First, let's put this in historical perspective. The last time I found both primaries being contested with non-incumbents in Florida was 2010.
GOP 1,282,957
Dem 863,698
That's a ratio of 1.49 to 1 in favor of the GOP, and they only went on to win the election ~2.6M to ~2.55M, or 48.9% to 47.7%. That said, the GOP did have a more competitive primary - but the Dems had a more competitive Senate primary that year.
Okay, what about those factors this year? Well the Dems had a more competitive primary, but the GOP got a lot more media coverage. I hadn't heard of any of the Dems running until tonight, but I knew all about DeSantis with that stupid ad he ran. The GOP race got national coverage and I think a lot more money was spent on that side, as well. Meanwhile on the Senate side, the GOP had a contested primary and the Dems did not.
So I think overall the turnout numbers here should be encouraging to Dems in Florida. That said, the polling between Scott/Nelson is still pretty scary.
