2018 House Elections - We Comin' For That Ass 2018 House Elections - We Comin' For That Ass

It didn't make much sense that the polls are trending one direction for the Senate and the opposite for the House. Now I'm thinking it may just be a extra lag time due to fewer polls on many less closely watched house races.

Now Realclear is showing a significant move in House races.

This could be a close one.

JFC. I can't even. I need to look up some of my old JAG friends to ask if this is against the UCMJ. not sure if it covers retired generals.

lollll @ that letter. It just goes to show the damage a pure chain email reading diet does on one's writing ability.

"Najjar's father has been a senior leader of Arafat's PLO."

"If Najjar should get elected and sees..."

"We would not bet the lives of our troops on the gamble." (Wat.)

Not to mention typos and misuse of punctuation. How we lose to these terrified, paranoid morons, I'll never understand.

I don't know if the PLO is indeed "the world's most infamous terror group". If Americans think really hard they might come up with another one.

Blogspot as a cited source is a a nice touch though.

Just curious...since the GOP controls the White House, Congress and the Supreme Court, why aren't we seeing any deplorable legislation? The window seems pretty short since Democrats could soon control the House. So where are the abortion bans, gay marriage bans, transgender military bans etc.? Personally, I suspect the Republicans are much more comfortable just whining about these things than they are actually practicing what they preach, since they know these things are going to be net negatives for them.

Abortion and gay marriage bans are unconstitutional, for now. Plus those things will
Have to be done at the state level because they largely involve police-power “solutions.” The deplorables stole one seat on the Supreme Court and have now swung the balance on the court to firmly deplorable. It is only a matter of time before states will be free to ban abortion, at the very least.

Rolling Stone interview with Katie Hill, the 31 year-old goat farmer challenging crusty old white dude Steve Knight in CA-25 north of Los Angeles

Q: What’s your advice to other Democrats trying to appeal to millennials?

A: If you’re trying to appeal to my generation you’ve got to be honest. You can’t put on this face mask that is so typical for politicians. Millennials smell the B.S. If you want young people to actually be excited, to feel like there’s any reason to show up to vote, you have to truly have something for them to connect with. That’s easier for me than for a lot of candidates because I am young. I know what it’s like to be faced with student loans, to have rent so high you don’t know if you’re ever going to be able to save up and buy a home. The issues the people of my generation are going through are natural for me because I’ve lived them, my friends are living them.

Got some political junk mail today. This is from my local Republican Paul Cook. Wonder how many other Republicans are just mailing out Trump tweets.

lol, doesn't CA-8 have two GOP candidates in the general? Why is Trump wasting his time in that race? Incredible

Small Donors Fuel a Big Democratic Lead in 2018 Fund-Raising
Across the 69 most competitive House races, Democrats have raised a total of $46 million from small donors during the 2018 election, compared with just $15 million for their Republican opponents, according to campaign finance data released this week.

Democrats have taken in $252 million altogether in those races over the course of the campaign, versus $172 million for Republicans. The gap in small donors accounts for about 40 percent of the Democrats' overall financial advantage.

NYT: California Dems have big cash advantages in close races

From July 1 through September 30:

Quote:
• 10th District: Josh Harder, a Democrat, raised more than $3.5 million while the incumbent Republican, Representative Jeff Denham, raised $650,000.
• 25th District: The Democrat Katie Hill raised $3.8 million while Representative Steve Knight, a Republican, brought in less than $500,000.
• 39th District: The Democrat Gil Cisneros’s campaign brought in $4.5 million, $3.5 million of which he lent to his own campaign; his Republican opponent, Young O. Kim, raised about $900,000.
• 45th District: Katie Porter, a Democrat, raised nearly $3 million while the Republican, Representative Mimi Walters, raised about $1 million.
• 48th District: Harley Rouda, a Democrat, raised $3.2 million while Representative Dana Rohrabacher raised $420,000.
• 49th District: Mike Levin, a Democrat, raised $2.3 million, compared with the $600,000 raised by his Republican rival, Diane Harkey.
• 50th District: Representative Duncan Hunter — a Republican who this summer was indicted over allegations of improper campaign spending — raised just $130,000. His Democratic challenger, Ammar Campa-Najjar, brought in $1.4 million.
Exception: David Valadao outraised his opponent in CA-21, which despite going for Hillary in the general election was not really expected to be a pickup in the House

Mostly because the Republican base isn't comprised of the cartoon characters you've deluded yourself into believing it is. Thus, the pressure on legislators to do things like those you've listed is not very high.

FYP, or are you seriously dumb enough to think the people whooping and cheering at Trump rallies aren't the "Republican base"?!

I’m 100% confident dems will fall between 215 and 235 Sears.

So basically, donors and people here believe the Hunter indictment and have stopped sending him money, but will probably still vote for him anyway. fml.

Correct, in the same way that I don't believe the weirdos showing up at Bernie rallies with pet issues are the Democrat base.

Anyone showing up at a rally period probably isn't going to really represent the majority of the electorate. The edges of both sides are full of crazies, but the biggest chunk of the country lies somewhere in the middle where things are much less insane.

You may wind up with more ideological outliers winning the elections because of how the entire process works to begin with, but when it comes to subsequent pressure from constituents for new legislation, there's a big difference between telling some pollster that you "agree" with something and actually demanding your legislator make it happen. The complainers will always be louder than those supporting these niche ideas, too, so there's no reason to waste political capital on nonsense like banning abortion at a Federal level or kicking all the furries/gays/whatever out of the military. People who would support such things don't care nearly as much as those who would oppose it. I'm sure you can think of countless examples in your own life.

It's the same reason Obama largely "squandered" his supermajorities in the eyes of true blue leftists. Their expectations were way out of whack. Obama did a fine job moving the ball for your team.

Isn't this just because the actual GOP is only interested in tax cuts, deregulation, entitlement slashes, etc. and don't actually give a **** about deplorables? Their whole pandering to deplorables is just to get them riled up to vote, their actual policy objectives are largely aimed at what their rich donors want, not what their base wants.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Bernie: losing primary candidate
Trump: president of the United States who has, like, historic approval among Republicans and is the undisputed leader of the Republican Party

TOTALLY THE SAME THING YOU GUYS
10-17-2018 , 06:16 PM
I didn't intend nearly as much meaning to the Bernie comment as you gave it.

I actually initially wrote something about the people crying at the HRC rallies, but didn't want to seem insensitive in case anyone here has pet issues that literally bring them to tears, and Bernie was clearly the more popular one. Superdelegates stole the nom.

Trump is POTUS right now because there were 18 GOP candidates for the Oval. Let's not get too excited about his "historic approval" and "undisputed leader" status.

Trump has not polled below 80% approval among Republicans in Gallup this year and has been as high as 90%, and as for disputing he's the "undisputed leader", name anyone else who can credibly claim that title. The other 17 candidates lost and immediately fell in line (except Kasich, whose political career is now irrelevant). Ted Cruz is kissing Trump's ass right now to try to save his job in ****ing Texas.

It is Trump's party, and the people who fill the 8,000 seat stadiums he's constantly bragging about are the base of that party. Bathe in that ****.
10-17-2018 , 06:39 PM
the people at trump rallies chanting to lock up diane feinstein are not political, oh no, lol you think that? no, these are just people from the area looking for a night of live entertainment. nothing to do with the republican party
10-17-2018 , 06:40 PM
Like, I cannot stress this enough. Go read ChiefsPlanet, that's some Real America **** for you. They ****ing love Donald Trump. I think they have one NeverTrump defector whose reason for abandoning Trump is that he isn't building the wall yet, and he wants that wall right now.

That is your base. tbh you'd probably feel pretty at home over there.
