There's a census questionnaire able to be read in a braille display, braille-aware notetaker or braille embosser.

Was shocked at the level of non-intrusiveness after this thread. I was expecting to have to disclose salary, occupation, political views, sexual peccadilloes, height, and favorite color. Instead, it was just name, age, race.

They get that information after they collect your name and race and send the brownshirts out after you for questioning/detention.

FWIW I disclosed my sexual peccadilloes in the margins of the form just for fun . Never know when a receptive Census worker might read it and be a little curious. My phone number is right on there.

Also, they already have that information. They just want to know where that information lives now, and how much it makes.

i got my census form yesterday. called the # on the back for help filling it out. got to ? asking if i was hispanic. told the guy no. then he wanted to know if i was white or black. i said white. then we went on. i stopped him to ask why he did not ask my ethnic background like they did on the hispanic ?. he asked what i meant and i responded that if you are hispanic the next ? is are you puerto rican,mexican,columbian,dominican,... but if you are white you are all clumped together. myself i am irish and i prefer not to clumped in the same group as germans, french, polish ... .maybe they could do a better job on this so the census would have a better breakdown of the U.S. . i also asked the agent if they were counting folks who were not citizens and he said yes. i wonder what the census needs to know about that since non citizens cannot vote and the big reason for the census is to set districts for congress.

Kids can't vote either and they're counted too. For quite some time, the Census also counted slaves. The Constitutional mandate isn't to count voters, it's to count the number of people living here.

I got a form today, unfortunately I can't fill it out because it's in a foreign language. Drat, now Puerto Rico is going to be short one family worth of ponies (.0622754 ponii).

The envelope says "Penalty for Private Use $300". If I'm completely out of toilet paper is it worth it?

and why do they need to have that information in the first place? the constitution only said to count the number of people. now they need to have the gps coordinates of every front door, including a whole bunch of private info.

this year was only 10 questions, but look at previous years. they asked for immigration status, make of cars, income, how many toilets are in the house, etc. look at the surveys that are sent out more frequently... how many miles do you drive to work, how many days were you sick, do you have trouble getting up stairs, etc.

congrats on promoting racism. fill out your race and fight for your share of the free ponies. try to get your group to the top! because everyone in the group wants the same exact thing, right?

of course, they guarantee that none of the info will be used against you and it will be private for 72 years. unless you are x-race during a war with x-country. unless there's a draft. unless the irs thinks you owe them money. unless the govt sells the information. unless the government doesn't properly secure it. unless the local government thinks there's a zoning violation. history has shown us that the government will do whatever it pleases with the information. some of these violations weren't too long ago and the biggest violation of all was only ~70 years ago.

but go ahead, it's no big deal. finally NOW the government is the benevolent masterpiece that it was striving to be. it can do no wrong.

Well I just finished diligently filling out all required fields in my census form and afterwards I spread a little bit of my feces all around it, so I got that going for me.

Yes, of course, because the IRS, Selective Service and your local government's zoning boards are dependent on Census data to find you. If you don't fill out the Census forms, their schemes are pretty much foiled.

I'm not sure which sentiment ITT is borne out of a more bizarre place: the notion that throwing your Census form in the trash is an effective form of rebellion against slavery or that the IRS sits around waiting for Census data before they move in on you to collect unpaid taxes. Or conversely, that YOUR LOCAL ZONING BOARD is going to the ****ing Census Bureau trying to get the appropriate data to ding you for a violation.
