Hey guys, with the world cup coming up, I was wondering who you guys have money on as underdogs?

At the moment I am keeping my eye on Uruguay and Colombia.

Denmark is my underdog. I have them at 5/1 for winning their group, in case France stumbles.

In Eriksen, we trust..

Since the USMNT failed to qualify for the WC, I'll be heading to Vegas (June 14-17) with some soccer friends to drown our sorrows.

I've had the William Hill app for just over a year now, but will any of the sportsbooks be opening early for the World Cup this year? Looked online and haven't seen anything. Especially with France/Australia kicking off at 3:00 AM.

Anyways, for those days/matches, I'm looking at betting

Friday, June 15th
Egypt/Uruguay (Could change depending on Salah, but the fact that Uruguay hasn't won an opening match since the WC was expanded to 24 teams in 1982 is worrying)
• Morocco/Iran [Draw]
• Portugal/Spain [Draw] (It was a draw the last time they played each other)

Saturday, June 16th
France/Australia
Argentina/Iceland
Peru/Denmark
• Croatia/Nigeria [Draw]

Sunday, June 17th
Costa Rica/Serbia
Germany/Mexico
Brazil/Switzerland (Brazil is 9-0-0 in the opening match since 1982)

Has it been confirmed if Salah will, or will not, be playing?

I can't imagine Egypt having any sort of chance without Salah..

Russia to advance from group stage is only -270? Maybe I'm just a cynical ass who knows nothing about soccer, but between FIFA, Putin, and the fact that they're playing in Russia, just maybe the fix is in?

At those odds I think there might be a little value in Nigeria although I'd probably trade out in play if they went ahead.

Right but Egypt basically has one good player and a bunch of guys named Joe right? My thesis is basically if not an outright fix, the refs are gonna let Russia get away with a LOT. Basically a bet on FIFA being ****ing corrupt as much as anything.

I think russia steps up not because of refs necessarily but just home field advantage etc.

think it finishes uruguay - russia - egypt - saudis

In the history of the WC, South Africa is the only host nation to not advance past the group stage (in 2010).

Hence, that's why the odds are -270. Also Saudi Arabia is horrific, and Egypt is certain now that Salah won't play. Egypt is pretty good defensively though.

This.

Not to mention all the Russian hooligans lobbing molotov cocktails at the opponents team bus each and every game..

So..which group has been labelled THE GROUP OF DEATH this year?

I'd guess it is probably the Germany-Mexico-Sweden-South Korea Group F.

Though Groups C and D look very tough, too..

Just want to add here: They were also the lowest ranked team of all the hosts on Fifa Ranking before WC in history. They were around 70-80th place when South African had WC. Russia is currently 70th on fifa rankings. Not sure if we can make some predictions out of it? For sure it is interesting.
Also, sometimes team that hosts WC fall on fifa rankings a bit before WC(they do not play qulifying games; so not much points for them; they get less points in friendly games).
