Dont know why people never get this... maybe it was only part of a larger bet? 4 600 dollar bets is, like... almost 2500 bucks!

Those guys seemed to stuck in a 2008 time warp. No idea where in hell they got the "its such a grind, if I could go back I wouldnt do it and everyone else says the same thing". I dont feel that way at all and literally every other person I know who does this feels pretty much the opposite of that.

Why do you think everyone here is so miserable? The freedom and flexibility are great, but besides that betting on sports for a living is lonely, stressful, tedious, and unfulfilling. You can make millions if you're good and/or lucky, but happiness can't be found sitting in front of your computer. The fact that you're so content with it--that you can't even fathom the other side--speaks volumes to your level of intellect and general lack of worth as a human being.

+1

The time commitment is a lot more than I originally ever thought it would ever be

Put more time into sports than I ever did into poker

Loved it at the start but as I learn more I hate it more lol

Keep in mind that many of the people that find these pursuits intellectually stimulating are simpletons. Honestly, I'd have to consider if I could spot Poogs 25 on an IQ test. Prob still doable, but I'd have to give it some thought.

When many of us sit here and want to solve problems, they're fun the first time and each subsequent variant becomes increasingly tedious and less interesting. However if you were inventing a hockey model that had an arbitrary shot valuation by shot type, but didn't account for lineup, you'd have a whole world of new discoveries. Next up he could learn VBA, etc. What probably would take most people a few months to retread in addition to the ongoing grind has taken him years to achieve the most minuscule amounts of insight. He has quite literally decades of mind blowing insights to achieve. (For example checking injury news before betting hockey player props. There is a free one for ya Poogsy, certainly playing me like a fiddle. I'm giving you all my best modeling secrets.)

Anyway, I think many of us are projecting our own levels of intellectual stimulation in place of the Poogs & Co of the world. I think both of your views are correct, but instead of trying to pretend Poogs is capable of finishing a normal college degree or anything approaching cogent thought, lets understand where he is at in life and be more sympathetic to the fact that he is learning new things every day and considers this a very interesting and high paying career compared to his other options.

Great Comment, its really person dependent and although there are two different schools of tought(Like/Poogs,Mihkel) what is a fact is that SB is a grind, and a very monotomous one which can and most likely will hinder other crucial aspects of life

You dont know a thing about me. Neither of you do. Im sorry life is so boring and unfulfilling for you two shockingly miserable, morbid, verbose,self-congratulating, narcissistic psychopaths (that you would use your own unhappiness as salient point for your side is... interesting.) I'll cut my dick off before I defend how I live my life to the likes of you two, Torvill and Dean, but suffice to say I am doing just fine. What two anonymous people on the internet who both somewhat gleefully describe themselves as "miserable" have to say about it means literally 0 to me. Youre smarter than everyone, thremp. You are the smartest and the best. You are SO smart. Happy? Did that brighten your day at all?

Where did I say I was so content with it? I have other streams of income and many, many other diverse interests. I'm probably the only person on the planet driving to my 7 AM tee time on a harley playing Dillinger Escape Plan in my helmet. I don't bet sports full time but when/if I did I made more than enough to earn a living. Its an awesome thing to do on the side. I'm sorry your experience has been so sad. I honestly feel pity for you.

My IQ is a touch under 140 and I find it intellectually stimulating sometimes Mainly working out changes in conditions, working out the fixing and being an amateur meteorologist.

The isolation and lack of structure as well as doing 50% of my work at the weekend can be challenging at times though.

Pros
- Huge earning potential
- Tax free in UK
- Flexible working hours and location

Cons
- Horror downswings and self doubt
- Can't borrow money
- Not going to save the world, just leeching inefficient markets

Most of my school year had IQs in the 130s, 90% are in boring finance jobs that just about cover London rents after tax. Maybe by 40, their wife that never saw them will be taking a large slice of their jacked up management earnings.

Sure. How do you define most? Obviously need a full roster from the school along with notarized Stanford-Binets for everyone.

51% but it was probably closer to 80%. The school was one of the best in the UK and selected the top 8% from those that took the test in a wealthy London area. Probably best to quit now and stop making assumptions.
