Its pretty obvious here chris, the downside is exposing your edge and process, might sharpen the lines or lower the limits in that specific market.
Off course there also upsides in my opinion if you can avoid delivering to much and have a small bankroll, which do not allow you to maximize your EV by yourself.
The problem is this guys are right(zero touts are good),but in my opinion overeacting,i would say 1% are good, however to get the price he advises its an herculean task.

"Total money won" is very important, but it's definitely not the defining factor when gauging a handicapper.

lol so are we all just pretending this guy didnt write "hypertheticle"??

Hypertheticly, yes HYPERTHETICLY you're shopping for a handicapper to get picks, let's take two touts from Vegas who have the same exact documented legitimate record. The first guy bets $1,000/game and is up $500k for lifetime. Second guy has different bankroll management and currently bets $1,500/game and is up $750k. The guy betting $1000/game is going to charge $79.95/month for picks, the guy betting $1500/game only charges $100/month for picks.

Youve asked the same question now, what, 4 times? 5? And every time youve been given an answer and now your response is "no thats wrong, the wrong thing that I posted here first and then posted again 12 more times and got the same answer 12 times is actually right". Hypertheticly speaking, youre kind of dopey chris.

If you already know the answers to every question you ask before you ask it, why do you keep asking them?

"literally zero downside"

If youre giving out -ev plays, which Im sure you are, then yea you have literally zero downside. But if you actually were giving out good plays, there would be quite a bit of downside.

I don't give out any plays. I was referring to my two acquaintances who do. Explain to me what the downside would be. Both average around $5k game and have been produced a consistent six-figure income from their own plays as well as additional income from releasing them. How is releasing them for pay costing them money?

I'll be honest, I've only been handicapping for 3 years so I'm still a little naive about betting. Although, I do disagree with the amount of emphasis on "total money won" being the be all end all of rating a handicapper.

BUT, this thread is "Who are the best sports bettors" not "best handicappers" so perhaps talking stats, results etc would beat be suited in a new thread.

You know two people who are consistent winners that are making a lot of money right? they sell picks right?

So you would obviously be buying their picks right?

So you should be rich right?

simple no?

The downside might be strenghten the lines,It is a risk, and why risk the all cake for
the cherry on top?
However if you have a small bankroll and can not maximize EV yourself it might be OK

Thank you for clarifying your ignorance (I'll be generous).

I have paid a minimal fee for one who has a ten year track record of success. The other I became personal friends with two years ago and only play his 2-3 top games per week that he sends me for free. Neither play more than 5k a game which isn't going to move a football number prior to releasing them to subscribers.

Playing 500 a game over the years hasn't gotten me rich but do add a nice revenue stream to my regular job and poker revenue.

What market are you betting even 5k into and not moving it.

What is the average bet size of someone who bets sports professionally then? $5,000 is pretty small? If this guy is a pro, that means he would have at least a $500,000 bankroll. And that is hard to get in sportsbetting unless you bet very aggressively or have a huge bankroll from doing something else.

Is it even possible for someone with a small bankroll to even bets sports and make good income out of it if say their bankroll is 25000 or less? I mean unless you are betting like 1k a game or something and betting more than you should, that seems like the only way where you could even have a big bankroll in sports.

The other thing is don't sports professionals sometimes have losing years? i cannot imagine anyone who bets never had a losing year besides very few people right? Because well if you are up a lot one year, then lose a lot the next year etc then isn't your taxes going to get screwed? Such as if you are up a lot during the year, you should be more aggressive with your betting? But if its towards the end of the year and you are up a decent amount, don't bet that aggressive? I heard that in a discussion in a poker thread here where they were talking about tournament poker but also high stakes cash games etc. Such as if you are up a lot early on in the year, you play more aggressively because even if you lose, you paying less in taxes in terms of percentage. Anyone have thoughts on this?

Start with 5k roll, bet half kelly (2.75%), find as few as 1,000 55% plays at -110 a year. In five years you should be pretty close to 5Million
