How do you get arguably the best Texas Rangers starting pitching performance of the year, hit 5 home runs, and still end up with a tiny sweat at the end?

The bottom of the 9th in yesterday's Rangers/Yankees game shouldn't surprise long-time followers of The Texas Rangers 2½ System. Of course, we would have been huge on Texas Rangers -2½ with Millwood as a big live dog. We would have come within 3 outs of cashing a huge payday. And then the Rangers blow it which is so standard when betting big on them -2½.

Today's match-up will be interesting. I admit to being a past critic of Holland but he's really come a long way this season. There is one reputable baseball analytic site that compares him to Cy Young winner Tim Lincecum. With the Yanks close to wrapping up the East and the Rangers in the hunt for the Wild Card I think you have to take the Rangers -2½. I'm (probably) not betting it personally--too much heartache--but that's the proper analysis.

ed: PHL has 45 wins by 2.5+ runs.

The WS Champs and best team in baseball scores a lotta runs.

On 5dimes today I had the following choices:
Side Sprd Line Win
Tex ---- -113 53%
Tex -1.5 +145 41%
Tex -2.5 +205 33%

I took -1.5. The questions were: Does Texas have less than a 12% chance to win by exactly 1? (Yes.) Does Texas have less than an 8% chance to win exactly by 2? (Maybe.)

The -2.5 line had significantly higher juice than the other two, unfortunately. The O/U is 9.5. Also I should note that Texas is on the road, so -1.5 is not nearly as bad as if they were home.

Tonight is a gift. You cannot lose tonight's bet if you have the sensibility to put your money on a sure winner. Tonight the Rangers have to beat this team by more than 2 runs for you to get paid. One night only, folks, we're coming back because tonight is one of the few locks in sports betting.

Everything lines up perfectly tonight. The Texas Rangers are just two games back in the Wild Card Standings, chasing their first playoff berth in 10 years. They are at home in Arlington after a day off to rest. Who do the Rangers have pitching? None other than their ace, Kevin "Mr. 2½" Millwood. On the other hand, the Mariners have lost 5 in a row on their road trip and have officially given up on the season. So who do they send out to pitch? Brandon Morrow. For those who don't know, Brandon Morrow is a right-hander who basically throws one pitch: a fastball. That pitch has so far earned him an ERA of 5.28 this season. Based just on ERAs alone, the Rangers have a few runs advantage. But remember, folks, that's an earned run AVERAGE. Sometimes a pitcher does better and sometimes worse. Unfortunately for young Brandon Morrow, he's facing a team that does particular well against a certain kind of pitcher: hard-throwing right-handed pitchers get crushed by the Rangers.

Friday (1 Play)

I'm a Rangers fan, so if I can find a good excuse to bet on them, I'm in. Doesn't Millwood's shaky last couple of outings concern you at all, though?

Not against the soft-hitting Mariners who rank last in the AL in batting average, last in on-base percentage, last in runs scored, and 2nd to last in slugging.

I love the pitch! Reminds me of a Sunday morning infomercial on a fuzzy UHF station. Just need big flashing text on the screen. I can hear his voice now...

It's currently *still* raining in Arlington. The gambling gods are doing work to PPD this game yet again and deny us a dream match-up.

Box scores like today get me excited for baseball again.

No, I'm not publicly reviving the Texas Rangers 2½ System. But do you want to know a little secret? There's a way to improve the system.

Remember, the logic behind the Texas Rangers 2½ System was that the Rangers are a powerhouse team built for scoring a lot of runs. Specifically, hitting big multi-run HRs. Here's your hint: Stick to laying the 2½ in ballpark(s) where the Rangers tend hit HRs.

One thing that you will consistently see among professional sports bettors is that they keep good records of their bets. Here is a graphical representation of all Texas Rangers 2½ System wagers across the different sports books.

5Dimes received the most action because they offer the 2½ on both favorites and underdogs. Even though The Rangers hit a lot of HRs, lines makers had them as underdogs in plenty of games.
