Things finally went right for me on Tuesday and I started to get a little kick in my step. Of course this angers the gambling gods who send down a crushing beat to teach me a lesson in humility. At one point the Rangers led the game 7-1, and were up by 3 with just one out remaining. Just one more out and we'd be looking at a nice 3.0+ unit payday. I swear if a baseball team had only 26 outs per game instead of 27, I'd be a much richer person.

It's a day off today to relax and think about things. Tomorrow I head out into the wild. I will likely only be able to provide only a short update tomorrow with the line from 5Dimes.

I decided to postpone today's trip into the wild. One thing I've learned about sports betting at the professional level is the time commitment it requires. I used to think the pros would just look at the lines in the newspaper with a pen and circle the games that seemed a little off. Now that I've been doing this for some time (can you believe it will soon be 3 months of the Texas Rangers 2˝ System?), I know it requires of lot of research and face time in front of a computer monitor. I still like to go out in the evenings and have fun, but full length day trips can wait until next week and the All-Star Break.

Getting back to business, the Rangers have been swinging the bat well. They've put up 9 runs in each of their last two games. Here's the key to those runs though: A whopping 11 of those 18 runs were produced as a result of the long ball. That's 11 runs scored off 7 HRs folks. That's Ranger baseball and if they can keep that up the wins AT2˝ will take care of themselves.

Finally, the wait will soon be over. Josh Hamilton will be returning to the line-up sometime during this series with the Rays. He's been playing Triple-A ball working on the timing of his swing. Once he's ready, he'll rejoin the Rangers in Arlington. What better way to celebrate the 4th of July than Josh Hamilton playing ball for the Rangers in Arlington?

I am protesting Ian Kinsler's All-Star snub. No doubt, the Rangers cover the 2˝ whenever I don't bet it. Speaking of snubs... Kevin Millwood. First he gets snubbed out of the All-Star Game and now he's a huge dog tonight. I don't normally bet MLs but getting +140 on Millwood is insane value. He's a legitimate ace with a great angle tonight--he'll be throwing with a chip on his shoulder due to his All-Star snub.

Regarding the 2˝ System, Hear me, folks. I am tired. My heart is sick and sad. From where the sun now stands, I will bet the Texas Rangers -2˝ no more forever.

Baseball season is a grind and I am not ready for the professional grind of doing this every game. This system gave me confidence that it can be done, though. I finished with a 2.8% ROI which is a little lower than expectation but still not bad (I have a min-edge of 5%). It likely would have been higher had we avoided just a couple of those horrendous beats. Of course, the Rangers will probably go on a huge run AT2˝ now that I lay-off (every conscious decision I make is usually wrong), but I see that as a tribute to the Texas Rangers 2˝ System.

How is it tiring when you just bet every game Texas -2.5 regardless of who they play? You're due now.

Ya, if anything just bet less money per game, I think the Rangers will get hot hot hot after the ASG...

There are 3 parts to being a successful long-term sports gambler.

1) Identifying +EV Bets
2) Proper Bet Sizing
3) Managing "heat" from bookies

The Texas Rangers 2˝ System ran bad for large stretches so for better or worse, we didn't have to discuss #3. #1 was basically just the system itself. Of course it took research and work to develop the system originally but after that we really did just bet the Rangers -2˝ every game (and sometimes the other team -2˝). The daily research helped with proper bet sizing. For example, tonight would be a classic single unit play. Nippert is making his first start of the 2009 season. We would only want to make this a single unit to control for the variance of an unknown starter (sometimes it helps to think of bet sizing as a defensive tactic).

Now that I have more free time, it might be a good opportunity to host my own "The Well" thread (with permission from the mods). That way we can discuss sports gambling topics beyond just the Texas Rangers 2˝ System.

No doubt the Texas Rangers cover the 2˝ in every game they win after I lay off ("when they win they will win big!"). I run so bad it feels like every conscious decision I make is wrong. I've left so much money on the table the last few days that I'm tempted to start this up again. But the timing isn't right. Re-starting now is a classic square play as the public buys high and sells low.

I leave for Vegas today to party it up for the weekend. I'll be camped out at the Encore/Wynn and Palazzo/Venetian sports books. Stop by and say hello. Afterward, we gonna drop dime up the club.

George Costanza is a great TV character, but it doesn't work that way with gambling. Pretty much every gambling decision I make is wrong. But I can't just fade my way to profits. The problem is that it would involve a decision when I *choose* to do the opposite. That was one of the great things about the Texas Rangers 2˝ System. I bet them every game and didn't second guess myself. But I found a way to mess that up. I shouldn't have quit. I should have kept it going. Abraham Lincoln was right... "it was not best to swap horses when crossing streams."
