I enjoyed the off day yesterday and went out to have some fun. Today it's back to the grind of making money.

The Rangers swept the Astros in their ball park last month. Now the 'Stros travel to Arlington for the 2nd round of Silver Boot action. It's no secret that the Rangers bats have been struggling lately. If you want to see some ugly stats, look at the Rangers hitters results for their last ~30 at-bats. Shame on you Ian Kinsler. When the team is struggling like this, as usual the Rangers turn to Millwood to get it done. Laying 2½ on the Rangers with Millwood on the mound has been a successful 2-2 in his last four starts. That's a tidy profit considering the generous payouts books offer. We can't miss this opportunity.

I would describe yesterday as a "model victory" for the Rangers. Millwood shut down the Astros while the Rangers hit 4 home-runs. After I called him out in my last post, Ian Kinsler really stepped up going 3 for 4 with two homers. If the Rangers could just do that every game we'd become very rich very fast. Of course, it's easy when playing the 'Stros. That's one team the Rangers absolutely dominate.

Big news. Former President George W. Bush will be at the game today. They will be honoring the 43rd President of the United States by renaming the owner's suite as "President George W. Bush Owners Suite." Combine that with the potential for the Rangers to achieve the first ever season series sweep of the Silver Boot match-up and this could be a historic night for the Rangers organization. We are sizing our bet appropriately. Remember, in his last 6 starts, Padilla has gone 4-2 against the 2½ (AT2½).

It was a disappointing loss tonight on many levels. I don't want to dwell on it too much. The Silver Boot remains in the Rangers possession for another year and we have some soft games against the Giants to look forward to.

Ever since the Texas Rangers 2½ System turned profitable back on May 12th, I've been receiving PM's from folks asking what I plan to do with the money I earn from this system. Well right now, I'm trying to build my bankroll. My goal is to one day become a professional sports gambler and I've learned from the daily grind of betting the Rangers -2½ that I'll need a good sized bankroll to survive the daily fluctuations. That being said, I've always felt that it takes a little bit of luck (and sometimes a lot of luck!) to succeed in this business. So I try to donate a portion of the money I earn to good causes such as feeding the hungry (I learned this trick from a professional gambler named Barry Greenstein). I know $20 isn't much, but, well, I've never been more proud of the Texas Rangers 2½ System than at 1:06 of this video. I encourage everyone who is experiencing either end of the variance continuum to review their charitable giving.

I didn't want to say anything because we're in the black and I am trying not to complain about every little thing. But this is getting ridiculous. That's 12 in a row now, folks. It's hard to win a major-league baseball game by 3 or more runs when you do this 12 times in a row. What is it that I'm talking about? Solo home-runs. They are a total waste of a HR. Hey Rangers, please save your HRs for when they can really put runs on the board. It's been over 20 years since the Rangers had a stretch this long without a multi-run HR. What a joke. I don't know what are the odds of this happening, but of course this stuff happens when we have bet the Rangers every game of the stretch -2½.

Another day. Another unit lost. We're now on a -5.0 unit downswing. I just don't get it. The Rangers simply cannot hit with runners in scoring position (RISP). They were 3-13 on Friday with RISP. And don't forget to add another solo HR to the streak of 13 in a row. This kind of hitting just won't do against the way Matt Cain has been throwing the ball lately. With Holland still noobing it up out there, I'm marking this one as a loss already to make that a -6.0 unit downswing.

The June gloom that is the Rangers offense continued last night (3 hits, another solo homer, and 0-5 with RISP). When the Rangers have hit the skids, they've always turned to Kevin "Mr. 2½" Millwood. It was with him that we last notched a victory way back on June 16th. We really need a victory and something positive heading into the off day tomorrow. One time, folks!

So much has gone wrong this last week that it's good to have a day off to think about things. On one hand, Ian Kinsler thinks it's just a funk. He said that this is something that every team goes through every year. I don't know. It's like I don't even recognize the Rangers any more.

Folks, I study a lot of Rangers stats. I never brought this up before because I didn't think it was important: Rangers pitchers are dead last in striking out hitters but Rangers hitters are 2nd in the AL in getting struck out (please don't get me started on Chris Davis). This never mattered in the past because the K's were a byproduct of the Rangers swinging for the fences. They might strike out a lot, but when they do put the ball in play it usually results in a huge extra base hit (baseball stat guys who follow an at-bats "Three True Outcomes (TTO)" know about this relationship). I'll lay 2½ on that risk/reward structure any day. Lately, though, the correlation between K's/SLG has broken down. It's been more strike-outs but less hits, especially with RISP.

I know some professionals say that inter-league baseball is more difficult to handicap so our poor performance could also be related to that as well.

It's crunch time now for the Rangers. After getting swept by the Giants, they have squandered their comfortable multi-game lead in the AL West. They now lead the Angels by a single game. Similarly, the Texas Rangers 2½ System has shed our double digit ROI from the start of the month. We're currently on a -7.0 unit downswing and are running at a horrible -32.4% ROI in June. Remember, though, because we're taking big plus odds the upswings happen quickly. We went +9.85 units in two days alone at the end of last month.

Finally, remember All-Star Game ballots will be counted in less than two weeks. The margin between Ian Kinser and Dustin Pedroia has narrowed from a few hundred thousand to just 60,000 votes. There are a lot of Red Sox fans voting for Pedroia so Ian Kinsler really needs your support. Josh Hamilton is hurt so I understand if he doesn't make it this year, but please please make sure Ian Kinsler gets in this year.

The Rangers are such a sh*t team now. Chalk up another loser. That's a season tying high five straight losses for the Rangers and 6 in a row for the 2½ System (the 2½ System is still a long way from our record for consecutive losses of 11). These games aren't even close also. For their last 3 games, when the 2½ is subtracted from the Rangers total runs scored, the result has been negative. It's hard to win when the result AT2½ is -1½, -½, and -½. Against Dan Haren tonight could be even worse. There are a few reasons to be encouraged though...

1) We're taking huge odds tonight. This is only the 3rd time we've been able to take odds at +400 or better. As bad as the Rangers have been lately, there is value anytime the Rangers are +400 or greater AT2½.

2) Public perception has turned against the Rangers. They've had the worst batting average in the league this month and everyone knows it. Many professionals believe that betting on the so-called "sh*t teams" are the way to make money in sports betting. So now we are going against the public and taking the ice cold team that no one wants.

3) Yesterday was their 5th loss in a row. The last time this season the Rangers lost five in a row, they came out swinging and won their next game by 13 runs.

I'm pulling this out of thin air, but what would happen if you bet every game TEX -2.5 AND the opposing team to win? How many games have Texas won by 1 or 2??
