Yesterday the Rangers were up 5-1 halfway through the game when it all fell apart. I can handle losing. Trust me. I've dealt with it most of my life. If we lose because the Rangers get blown out (when we are not laying 2½ on the other side) or when it's a close game the whole time I understand. It happens. But I feel like most of the times we lose it's a game that was within reach. I guess that's one way sports betting is similar to poker: Generally, if you are a good player, you are going to be subjected to many more bad beats than a bad player.

Moving forward. The Rangers have historically struggled at Fenway. They were 0-7 there last year and allowed eight or more runs in five of those games. However, this year the Rangers pitching is much improved and tonight they have their ace Millwood on the mound. This makes the Rangers a "live dog" and we lay the 2½.

PS, lol @ the Nats being favored against an above .500 team. Easiest bet ever on the Mets tonight.

The hundred dollar geniuses lol'in at the 'leveling' of the great TomG have no clue. The wisdom in his words are as true as the sky is blue. And poker is fun for everyone.

Just so we are all clear, I don't expect to win today's bet. The Rangers haven't been this big of a dog to win by 3 or more runs since Roy Halladay and the Jays on April 21st. Remember, though we're playing with "house money" at this point. So think of today's bet as a freeroll. If that doesn't help, here's a stat I found on another forum: Rangers are 4-0 in their last 4 during game 2 of a series.

Folks, tomorrow will be a rare day away from the computer for me. I'll be sure to find time to check the lines and update from my phone. I'm guessing the 2½ line will be something like Texas Rangers -2½ +330 at 5Dimes (I'm starting to get pretty good at predicting the Rangers -2½ opening line now).

Yeah, but the Rangers are 4-0. That's 100%. 100%>80%.

Lucky for the Rangers they won't have to face the Doc in this 4 game series. The rest of Jays rotation is pretty weak, with a few flash in the pan starts. I think you will go 2-2 this series, with some super square prices.
In fact I think every game could be won by 3 or more by one team or another, what are your thoughts Tom?

The Rangers broke even going 3-3 on their road trip to the Northeast. Unfortunately, the Texas Rangers 2½ System lost a little during the road trip (***** Yankees). We got in a hole early and only partially dug our way out against the Red Sox. Now the Rangers are at home for a four game series against the Blue Jays.

This series is an example of the impact of home field advantage (HFA) in baseball. In general, HFA in baseball is worth a few percentage points--historically home teams win something like 53.5% of their games. That's on average though. Some teams like the Red Sox and Yankees enjoy a larger HFA. This year you can add the Rangers to that list. On the surface, it might appear like the Jays (32-27) and the Rangers (33-23) are pretty similar ball clubs. But look at their home/away splits. The Jays are the worst 0.500+ ball team on the road. Although in general I respect the Jays, they are a lousy 0.393 team on the road. The Rangers are a hot 0.667 at home (3rd best in the AL). So you have a terrible team on the road versus a good team at home. And Arlington is a long way from Toronto.

Hammy underwent surgery this morning. It's now certain we've lost him for a few months. However, I still recommend you continue to include him on your All-Star Ballots. Even though he won't be able to play in the game or Home-Run Derby, it's an important show of support that will mean a lot to him.

Today is the 2nd day of the Rangers longest homestand of the season. Things didn't work out yesterday. That's baseball. There's a lot of randomness in this game (a baseball game is the most difficult sporting event to predict).

should we have a side thread for this, or are we going to let our savior TomG address this as his baby since he brought it up
